Singing With Videos in Spanish

Alejandro Sanz was born in Spain in 1968. He began playing guitar at the age of seven and composing his first songs three years later. The young musician started attending management classes after moving from the neighborhood of Pueblo Nuevo to Moratalaz.

At the age of 16, Alejandro Sánchez recorded Los Chulos Son Pa' Cuidarlos. However, his official debut, called Viviendo Deprisa, came in 1991 after signing up with Warner Music. Si Tú Me Miras followed in 1993, featuring contributions from Nacho Mañó, Chris Cameron and Paco de Lucía. His third album, aptly titled 3, was recorded in Venice, Italy, and produced by Miguel Angel Arenas and Emanuele Ruffinengo.

1997's Más and 2000's El Alma Al Aire, the Spanish singer/songwriter achieved international top-selling status.

He also appeared in the film clip for The Corrs' English translation of their duet, "Una Noche" ("One Night") as Andrea's love interest. The video is included in The Corrs' DVD version of Best of The Corrs. In return, The Corrs sang "The Hardest Day" with him.

In 2001, he became the first Spanish artist to record an Unplugged for MTV.

In 2003, he recorded the album No Es Lo Mismo, which won five 2004 Latin Grammy Awards. It won Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best Engineered Album with Mick Guzauski, Pepo Sherman, and Rafa Sardina as engineers.

In 2005, Sanz worked with Shakira in the hit single "La Tortura".

On September 25, 2006, Sanz released the song "A La Primera Persona". It was the first single from his new album El Tren de los Momentos which was ultimately released in November 7, 2006. The album also produced another hit duet with Shakira titled Te lo Agradezco, Pero No.

On October 2, 2007, Alejandro Sanz launched his own fragrance called "Siete" (Seven).

Sanz is a critic of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez. He was recently banned from Venezuela. Oops!

One approach I like for getting the most out of a Spanish music video is as follows:

1. Listen to the song and watch the performer.
2. Get a general feel for the song and what story the singer is trying to convey through the lyrics.
3. Run the video again and follow the Spanish lyrics.
4. Note any unfamiliar vocabulary. Use the Babelfish online translator or the excellent WordReference Online Dictionary to the clarify meanings.
5. Follow the lyrics and sing along.
6. Eventually memorize a little or a lot.

7. If you play keyboard or guitar or know someone who does you can add another dimension to your Spanish skills.

On March 10th 2008, Juan Luis was honored with 4 awards in los Premios Casandra, the most important award event in the Dominican Republic. He won for Orchestrator of the year, Outstanding artist abroad, Music album of the year for La Llave de me Corazón and "El Soberano" (The Sovereign), the most important award of the night.

Chingon is a band started by Robert Rodriguez, director of ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO and DESPERADO. Chingon is his band made up of members from the Austin music community, featuring members of the Spanish Rock band, DEL CASTILLO, Carl Thiel, Rafael Gayol of Bob Schneider's band, Cecilio Ruiz from the HeeBeeJeeBee's, and others.

Originally formed to create songs such as CUKAROCKA and SIENTE Mi AMOR (featuring Salma Hayek on vocals) for the ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO soundtrack, Chingon (Spanish for BAD ASS) reformed for the companion CD to the Mariachi series, MEXICO and MARIACHIS. This CD comes with a DVD showing the making of the music, and features songs not included on the other soundtracks.

One of the songs is MALAGUENA SALEROSA, a re-arrangement of the classic mariachi standard, which Rodriguez conceived of originally for Desperado. It makes its first appearance on this album.

When Rodriguez was contracted to score KILL BILL 2 for Quentin Tarantino, Quentin heard Rodriguez's version of Malaguena Salerosa and designed his end titles around it. The song also appears on the KILL BILL 2 soundtrack album.

CHINGON has released it's first studio album titled MEXICAN SPAGHETTI WESTERN and plays live shows in Austin.

In 2000 Shakira won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ("Ojos Asi") at the inaugural Latin Grammy Awards. In 2001 she released Laundry Service, her first album to include English language songs, affirmed the singer's superstar status when it scored in the Top 5 of the mainstream US pop chart. The album went on to enjoy international acclaim, buoyed by the huge commercial success of the single "Whenever, Wherever".

The version here is the original Spanish one. It is not exactly karaoke as it contains the voice track but I like the version with voice and lyrics better because I can listen as well as read and sing.
