Sinus infection home remedy using ancient Indian remedies

Ayurveda means "the science of life" and is practiced mainly in the Indian subcontinent. It is an ancient holistic system of medicine as it blends meditation, yoga, astrology, herbal medicine, massage and dietary advice.

Ayurveda is very beneficial for skin conditions such as eczema, acne, stress-related conditions such as migraine and fatigue and is also a very effective sinus infection home remedy.

This ancient Indian remedy uses medical products which are prepared from plants using bark, root, fruit, leaves and sometimes seeds. When you are suffering from excess phlegm caused by your sinus, you would typically be treated with warm, light, dry foods and with fasting and avoiding cold drinks that would worsen your infection. Foods to avoid are sweet and juice vegetable but you are recommended to eat more hot, spicy foods, apples, pears, leafy vegetables and beans.

Other than the nutritional aspect, it can also be used in many other ways and we have suggested two of the more widely used plants to use as your sinus infection home remedy.

The "Neem" plant

In India, this plant has been hailed as "the village pharmacy" because of its many medicinal qualities. It is known to stimulate the immune system, promotes a healthy circulative, respiratory system, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-septic. If you want to safeguard your house against airborne diseases, hang two bunches of "Neem" leaves at the main doorway of your house.
A mixture of saffron and "Neem" leaves provide cleansing and anti-bacterial qualities ,so use it to wash your house entrance every morning and if you are not feeling well because of your sinus, you can place the leaves on the bed and around the bedside and it will help you to recover swiftly.

The Basil plant
The basil is an important symbol in the Hindu religious tradition and is worshipped in the morning and evening by Hindus at large. The basil plant helps to purify the atmosphere and is encouraged to be grown and placed in a pot in the front and back of the house.
There are many tips on how you can use basil as an effective sinus infection home remedy -

1. A decoction of the leaves with honey and ginger is very effective for many respiratory system disorder such as sinus, bronchitis and asthma.
2. Drinking the juice extracted from basil leaves can also bring down a fever and eases a sore throat.
3. Chewing on the leaves helps to loosen the mucus, relieves cold and flu.
4. Pound basil leaves and mix it with sandalwood paste and apply on the forehead makes an excellent relief for a sinus headache.

One must remember that such herbal remedies are not quick fixes as they require time, energy and commitment but when used sensibly in conjunction with medication they can transform your life.
