Cliff Richard's Popularity has Spanned Fifty Two Years
I still remember seeing Cliff Richard on Television when he first started out as an Elvis Presley look-alike in the music programme 'Oh Boy' in 1958, and then on 'Top of the Pops'.
Gradually he developed his own style, and blossomed in his own right.
You know the rest.
Born Harry Rodger Webb in 1940, Cliff Richard spent part of his childhood years in India. until 1948. Inspired by the music of Elvis Presley, he got his first guitar at the age of 16, and formed a band, 'The Quintones', with his school friends, performing at their local Youth Club. They went on to form 'The Drifters' in 1958 and were joined by Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch.
In 1959 the band changed their name to 'The Shadows'.

Three Reasons to Admire Cliff Richard
After a sharp rise to fame, Cliff began to develop his own style
:
And a pretty good style it was too, because Cliff Richard has been performing his music steadily for over fifty years, and is still popular enough to fill the Albert Hall in London.
- He worked hard
- He had a good voice
- He adapted his style to let his own personality shine through
Cliff Richard - The Peter Pan of Pop
His first stage performance was in 1958:
Sir Cliff Richard performed in a series of six concerts at The Royal Albert Hall in London to celebrate his 70th birthday.
He is the only British artist to have number one hits in each of the last six decades, This is because his songs retain a relevance to his admirers . From rock tracks like 'Devil Woman' to ballads like 'We Don't Talk Any More', his performancel included hits from his amazing 53-year career including a selection of songs from his album 'Bold As Brass'.

- I used to listen to Cliff and The Shadows when I was growing up in the early 60's. I loved his music back then, and it still sounds good now. I think it's time for a resurgence of the early songs. If Beatles music is as popular as ever, then why not Cliff too. Lensrolled to all my Song Lyrics lenses.
