Who Is Sirius Black?
Godfather to Harry Potter. Best friend to James Potter. Former prisoner of Azkaban. This character within the realm of Harry Potter has intrigued and fascinated Harry Potter fans since his first appearance in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

A few things every Potter fan should know.
- Sirius Black is Harry Potter's godfather.
- Sirius Black was best friends with James Potter, Remus Lupin and the backstabbing Peter Pettigrew while at Hogwarts. The group became known as the Marauders.
- For many years, it was believed that Sirius Black was the one to betray James and Lily Potter by giving their secret location to Voldemort - thus leading to their death. However, it was later discovered that it was Peter Pettigrew who was the turncoat.
- Sirius Black comes from a long line of pureblood wizards with a deep prejudice against Muggles. This isn't a prejudice that Sirius shared, however.
- While at Hogwarts, Sirius nearly led Severus Snape to his death by tricking him into going to the Shrieking Shack whilst Lupin was there, hidden away from the world during the fullmoon whilst he turned into a werewolf.
- Sirius Black is an Animagus, a wizard who can shapeshift into an animal. Sirius' animal was a black dog named Padfoot.
- Sirius was murdered by Bellatrix Lestrange while attempting to help Harry at the Department of Mysteries.
