Verisign.com

One of the oldest security sites in existence, Verisign offers a range of security certificates and the famous "Verisign Secured Seal" banner which alone they claim can increase visitor-to-sales conversions, lower shopping cart abandonment and result in larger average purchases. The company uses proprietary software which provides 128-256 bit encryption on transaction data such as credit card numbers. Securing more than 500,000 web servers worldwide and monitoring over 1.5 billion security events daily makes VeriSign a trusted authority. This particular trusted authority, however, can cost around $3000 to implement on your site and may not be a viable option for small-to-medium sized business.

Thawte.com

Also offering SSL certificates, 256-bit encryption and a snazzy banner graphic, Thawte strives to ensure its customers that their visitors will have an authenticated, trustworthy site and that information is encrypted while in transit between web servers and browsers. Their certification process is quite rigorous and ensures that the website owner is listed with an official registration agency in their jurisdiction, has an active business license, resides in a non-prohibited country and that the person contacting them is actually employed by the company being submitted. Like Verisign, Thawte is more appropriate for larger businesses.

Ratepoint.com

In addition to a quality seal which RatePoint offers to show site visitors that a business is reputable, they also offer an affordable solution that gives companies the ability to manage their reputation. Their service allows the proactive capturing and managing of customer feedback and reviews. The trust seal graphic clicks through to RatePoint's profile for the site a visitor happens to be on and encourages feedback about that specific business. Inviting ratings and criticism in this way takes the confidence inspiring capabilities of a simple trust seal a step further. RatePoint.com is appropriate and affordable for businesses of any size.

BBBOnline.org

The Better Business Bureau, an almost universally recognized name, offers the BBBOnline Reliability Seal which displays a commitment to high levels of ethical business practices and customer satisfaction. In order to qualify for the seal, a company must be in business for more than a year and have a satisfactory record with the Better Business Bureau. By being part of this program, the company is also included on the BBBOnline Safe Shopping Site, and the BBB will work with companies to resolve disputes that might arise which include offering an arbitration process. Pricing is not easily accessible on their website and prospective applicants must deal with their local Better Business Bureau via the mail or in person.

Truste.org

Independent and non-profit, Truste offers multiple certifications which include their Web Privacy Seal, Email Privacy Seal, and EU Safe Harbor Seal. The specific graphics are available to companies that adhere to Truste's strict privacy principles and comply with the TRUSTe Watchdog dispute resolution process. The process involves creating a privacy policy to be reviewed by TRUSTe before being posted to a business' website. Posting notice and disclosure of collection and use practices of personally identifiable information give customers choice and consent over how their information is used and shared. Truste.org is appropriate for businesses of any size due to their non-profit model.

Trustbuild.com

The Trustbuild Seal may be awarded to professional sellers that qualify for their program by agreeing to make a public commitment to sell with honesty and integrity. The seal is comprised of the TrustBuild logo, the member seal tag line "Honesty and Integrity Build Trust", the professionals Member ID which is any combination of seven letters or numbers displayed in all caps. These unique identifiers, contained as part of the visible graphic, differentiate TrustBuild from many of their competitors. Holders are also licensed to use their personalized seals on their business cards, letterhead, email signatures, websites and other marketing collateral. Cost is $99 for 6 months and $189 for 12 months. The program is quite affordable and also available for E-Bay Sellers.
