How to use a Sitz Bath to relieve Hemorrhoids
A sitz bath is generally one of the first things that your doctor will prescribe when you have been diagnosed with hemorrhoids. The idea of the sitz bath is to immerse the affected part of your body in warm water for a period of time. You will prepare the water with salt or baking soda and you might add essential oils to make the relief of pain more affective.
Did you know that you can relieve the pain and cure hemorrhoids within 48 hours (for most cases)? Click here to get the information about the 48 hour cure.
The term Sitz is taken from the German word sitzen which means to sit. That is exactly what you do when you take this bath. It is a bath in the sense that the area affected by the hemorrhoids (the anus and buttocks) are immersed in warm water. Sitting in warm water allows more blood to reach the area and in turn this promotes healing. Of course, more is needed than just warm water. How you prepare the water and where you prepare the water contributes to the healing process.

The Sitz bath container
It is possible to use your bathtub or toilet for a sitz bath. However, it would be more pleasant and thus have a good affect on you if you use a container that is specifically designed for this bath. The container fits over the toilet and in some cases has an attachment that allows you to regulate a flow of water into the container. These containers can be bought from your local drug stores, merchandisers like Walmart, or ordered on line. And they are rather cheap with an average dollar range of $10 to $15.This site contains a couple of pictures showing what a sitz bath container looks like.
Preparing the water
You want to ensure that you sit in warm water to get the desired results. Notice the word "warm". You do not want to burn your self. If you are determining how hot the water is just by feel, please be careful. Remember that what feels fine to your hand might be too hot for your buttocks and hips. Bottom line: BE CAREFUL.You will want to add baking soda or salt to the water and let it dissolve before sitting in the tub. In addition, you might want to add essential oils to the water to further help reduce the swelling and provide more comfort. Juniper or lavender works well for this purpose.
Sitting in the bath
After your water is prepared, you are ready to sit in the bath. You will want to sit in the bath for 20 to 30 minutes. If you have the water regulator attachment, you will want to periodically let in new water. This will keep the water temperature where it needs to be and yes, the sitz bath container is designed to let water flow out when needed. If you do not have the luxury of the water regulator, you might need to refill the bath container by hand. Just ensure that you spend 20 to 30 minutes in the bath. Also, you will want to repeat this process at least twice each day to get the full benefit of the sitz bath.
Summary
The sitz bath can be an aid toward bringing relief and potentially a cure for a hemorrhoids attack. Indeed, if you can wait out the pain, this bath is one of the treatments you will want to use to bring about a cure. However, it is not the cure all to hemorrhoids. You will need to use other aids such as herbs, a diet in high fiber, and other recommendations to possibly bring about the cure you are looking for.
