Six Degrees of Separation

Ranked #29,782 in Culture & Society, #588,664 overall

Do I know you? Maybe not personally, however, I might know someone who knows someone who...

Who has heard of the theory of "Six Degrees of Separation", "Six Degrees Apart" or the small world experiments?

Well, I knew about this theory, however, I never really put much stock in it. Then one day I was told that it really works. A colleague at work told me that he knew the Governor-General of Australia. Of course I didn't really believe him as we worked in a Hotel (a five star hotel). I asked myself how a receptionist could know the G-G of Australia?

More on the intriguing idea...

So, where was I...oh, that's right, he knows the G-G. What do you think happens after that discussion? About a week later, I find out the G-G is coming to town and staying at the hotel. Well, I thought, this is my chance to prove this theory wrong.

I hang around the reception area waiting for our distinguished visitor to arrive and check in. Lo and behold, when the G-G walks in and sees my colleague in reception he called to him by name. Damn, and if that wasn't bad enough the G-G asked after my colleagues mother and wished his family well. I guess that we really are all only Six Degrees Apart.

Great Stuff on Amazon. Read about this theory or get the TV Travelogue.

I know...you're waiting with baited breath.

How does all this relate to the picture of Linda Evangelista you ask yourself? Well, you'll never guess, however, you're reading the lens of a person who has met both Linda and her husband, Kyle McLaughlan.

So, now you know someone who has met someone that you might like to know.

Bit of a strange twist to this lens I know, but it was fun.

I hope you all come to meet me in the Metaphysical Realms.

Catch you next time.
