Glamorous Hair Styles For Women Continued through the 60's
The 60's was really the last decade of glamorous hair styles. You saw a continuation of so many styles from the forties and fifties with some great additions such as the french twist, beatle's cut, boyish cut, afro and flip.
Some of the most beautiful women who typified the 60's hair styles were Joey Heatherton, Marilyn Monroe, Marlo Thomas and Audrey Hepburn. In 2008, many of the celebrities are going back to the 40's, 50's and 60's hairstyles for gala events.

Pin Curls
Flat and Elevated Pin Curls

Pin Curls were in vogue from 40's through the 60's. They were especially popular for short hair. With this styling method, you can look either fun and whimiscal or classy and sexy. Leaving pin curls in overnight will create a tighter curl. Styling them in the morning is quick and easy so they are low maintenance.
In recent years, pin curls have made a comeback. You see them in glamorous hair styles at the Academy Awards.

The Bouffant

The bouffant could be worn for every day wear or put into a more elegant upsweep style for a night out.
According to Widipedia the bouffant is a type of hairstyle characterized by hair piled high on the head and hanging down on the sides. It was a mainstream hairstyle in the mid-to-late 17th century in western Europe. In modern times, the bouffant was popular in Western culture in the 1960s, when it was created with the help of back-combing and large amounts of hair spray.

Dippity Do was my product of choice for setting hair with those wonderful metal rollers. Remember those?? Ouch, I used to sleep on my stomach with a head full of large metal rollers that were my mom's from the 50's! Dippity Do Commercial from 1972
Does this bring back memories?
Dippity do was so popular in the 60's and early 70's. I don't ever recall using another setting gel.

- Although I am not a child of the Sixties I do think it was one of the best decades for hair styles. The bouffant is simply brilliant.
