ska Jamaican 2 tone and a few steps beyond
Ska is great party music - nothing like bouncing around to it - with or without the help of a few beers
Here we look at its origins and how it has developed over the years
from its source in Jamaica through its 2 tone years (I am a Coventry boy)
and on into its current 3rd wave phase
I will try to be as inclusive as possible

as you will notice - there have been a few changes
The beginnings - Jamaica
on from R&B - to something new
Back in the 60s Jamaica had a deep an abiding love of what was then American R&B. American tastes moved on to other things. So Jamaica made its own ... but then it added a little twist. With a hint of Mento - Jamaican style calypso - giving the accent to the off-beat and a rhythm guitar which clipped out the sound ska-ska-ska
Ska was born with its great stars Don Drummond, the Skatalites, Laurel Aitken, Coxsone Dodd, this list will go on ...
eventually this mutated into Rocksteady in and around 1968 - a slower more even sound to go with the blistering heat of that summer,
it lasted roughly a year until things moved on again into what became reggae
and from these years we remember Slim Smith, the Uniques, the Ethiopians, Toots and the Maytals, Desmond Dekker and the Aces and many more
