Skateboarding is Good for you.

SkateboardingSkateboarding has many positive impacts on the skateboarder.

It goes beyond the obvious.

Skateboarding obviously promotes physical health. Most skateboarders are more active than most other sporters. It is typical for a skateboarder to be skateboarding for hours and hours in a day. They use their boards as means for transportation, recreation, fun, and sporting. Skateboarding builds muscle, balance, and endurance.

However, most people fail to consider the other benefits skateboarding has on a skateboarder. A skateboarder is usually trying to master new tricks on the board all of the time. This is not only physically challenging but also mentally challenge. It is teaching the child or person to overcome weaknesses. It also builds habits of improving oneself, and ones abilities. The skateboarder is also overcoming mental challenges and limitations in order to achieve the level of skill that they are after.

Although I feel the mental and physical affects of skateboarding are most important. I also feel that skateboarding has a positive social impact. Skateboarding is a sport where friends and other skateboarders are teaching and helping each other learn new tricks. And although they can be competitive it is not a sport that creates anger, hate or aggressive. It's positive competition among friends.

I would love for more parents and our society to consider and remember how positive skateboarding is. Yes, just like anything else, its not perfect. But remember most skateboarders intentions are not to annoy others or break rules. Their intentions are only to ride and to skate whatever looks fun and challenging to them which is actually extremely healthy and good for those individuals.

At times I can't believe that skateboarders are looked down upon and as criminals. They may be trying to skate places that some don't want them to, but they are only looking to skate. It's not a crime, it's not harming anyone and its not violent or negative. I hope to help people remember this next time they see someone riding their skateboard.

I've been skateboarding myself for the past ~15 years or so, maybe more then that. When I actually started I was a young kid, though I don't remember the exact age. Skateboarding has gone on the back burner in my life more recently as I've been stuck working and going to college full time, but I still enjoy cruising around from time to time. Back when I was younger I would skate practically all day, every day of the week. I've been in so much trouble with the police and other random people in a variety of neighborhoods. Stumbling on this lens really brings back those memories for me of riding around and hanging out with my friends in one of the best possible ways. If only more kids these days would pick up skateboarding and move themselves away from the television and video games. More importantly, communities need to start being more supportive of skateboarders and help them actually safely perform their sport by funding skate parks and other initiatives. Good job on the lens on the whole! I look forward to seeing you add some more information, and would particularly suggest adding some videos as skateboarding and film seemingly go hand in hand! I have so much footage of myself when I used to skateboard heavily, and it is still entertaining to watch!

I built a skateboarding site for my son a few years ago and this lens is something I also made for him. Unfortunately he has lost some interest in skateboarding and prefers video games. I wish he would skate more and I try using this lens and his site in order to motivate him. It works at times, its just getting him on the board. Once he gets on the board he loves it and is doesn't want to stop. We have several skateboarding parks around here which I highly support. A lot of adults have a "bad perception" of skateboarding and I highly disagree. I believe skateboarding is healthy for kids (or adults) not only physically but mentally too. They are challenging themselves, they are learning to work at something, and they are being active interacting with other people. (I think this just inspired a new post.) And thank you for the tips, I will add some videos and more info.
