Skateboarding

Do you love skateboarding and want to find out more or check out some cool skateboarding gear? If so you've come to the right site, but first did you know that skateboarding is believed to have been started in the 1950s or 1960s?

The boards have changed a lot since the beginning and in the late 1970s trick skating was invented. The likes of Alan Gelfand, Rodney Mullien & Jason Lee have really helped to evolve the Trick Skating culture.

Ollie

The Basis of most Skating Tricks

The Ollie was first invented by Alan "Ollie" Gelfand in 1976. It is basically a jump that is performed by tapping the tail of the board on the ground. The Ollie gives the illusion that the skater has glued the board to his/her shoes.

Because the Ollie forms the basis of many skating tricks it is important to master it, Tony Waters, a skater himself, reveals how to do the Ollie and many more tricks in only 8 weeks in his book The Secrets of Skateboarding.

He not only teaches the easiest way to learn the Ollie, but also shows you how to take the Ollie to new levels and make insanely high Ollies.

Tony Waters book The Secrets of Skateboarding shows you how you can master these "flips" in only 8 weeks. Some people take years to perfect them.

Kickflip

This is a variation on the ollie in which the skater kicks the nose of his/her board to send it into a spin before landing back on it.

Heelflip

A heelflip is basically a kickflip in which the skater uses the heel of his/her foot to flip the board instead of the toe.

Hardflip

When performing a hardflip you do a kickflip while having the board spin frontside instead of backside.

Back or Front

When talking in skate lingo backside refers to when a trick or turn is executed with the skater's back facing the ramp or obstacle.

Frontside refers to when a trick or turn is executed with the front of the skater's body facing the ramp or obstacle.

It is this angle that makes his book The Secrets of Skateboarding stand out from all of the others.

My daughter loves this PlayStation 2 game and she's not the only one as the game has gone platinum. It is also available on both Gamecube and X-Box.

One of the reasons she loves it is that she can play as herself by loading her own picture - not that she's vain or anything!! She does find that some of the goals are unachievable, but then she is young and fairly new to playing Playstation so I am sure that she'll find them easy soon.

There are apparently nine levels, but I have only seen a couple of them, they certainly keep my dd entertained and the reviews that I have read say that Tony Hawk's Underground is fantastic.

Quite an interesting/amusing fact about skateboards getting banned in Norway! I always used to love skateboarding, I wasn't very good (hence my generally only skateboarding at night); I did however master a few basic tricks such as the ollie, the kickflip, and a few others too... I wasn't very good but I did occasionally manage to pull it out the bag with some pretty amazing tracks! Anyway, I digress; I enjoyed the lens, and it's 5 stars for skateboarding!
