If you prefer to paint, panel, or wallpaper, there are numerous choices from which you can select.

If you prefer to paint a ski lodge themed room, forest green and deep beige are popular choices. 

If you like the look and feel wallpaper brings to a room, there are many choices of wallpaper available online.

If you already have a paneled room, this room may be the perfect room for your ski lodge themed decor.

What is a ski lodge without skis? If you own a pair of skis, have them work double duty. Instead of keeping them stored in the shed, pull them out and mount them on the wall or prop them in the corner of your "ski lodge" room. When it is time to go skiing, borrow them from your room décor.

If you don't care to decorate with snow skies, group a pair of Indian style wood showshoes next to a wood shelf adorned with a collection of bears and/or other wildlife that reminds you of mountain living.

There isn't enough that can be said about the ability of a nice roaring fire to add warmth and a winter-time glow to almost any room. A fire not only warms a room; the mere sight of the flames is soul soothing and comforting.

If you don't have a fireplace in your home or have a medical condition that prevents you from burning a fire; consider hanging a picture of a fireplace or fire scene at eye level next to your sofa, bed, or chair. If this idea is not for you, consider placing over-sized candles throughout the room.

If you do have a fireplace, but burning wood is not for you, place a collection of lighted candles in your fireplace for a warm glow.

If you have a TV in your room, but not a fireplace, turn your TV into a fireplace without the mess of wood. Have a fireplace, an old TV and an old DVD player taking up space in your house? Seal up your exiting fireplace to protect your electronics, and then insert your old TV and DVD player inside.

I enjoy the scent of winter ... hot apple pie, spiced oranges, bread baking in the oven, cinnamon, warm cookies, vanilla, and the scent of pine; these all remind me of winter.

Fortunately, there is an alternative to bringing a pine tree into your home or baking for hours in the kitchen. That alternative is burning what I call "winter" scented candles.

If you have decided to lend a room to a ski lodge themed decor, fragrant candles and the flicker of their flame will add wonders to the rooms atmosphere.

If the room is rather small and you prefer to burn several candles at once, group several unscented candles around a scented candle. You don't want to overpower the room with fragrance.

Color coordinate your candles. Just because a candle has no scent, doesn't mean it only comes in white. When creating a grouping of candles, chose colored candles that complement the colors in your room.

Bear hibernate in winter, so why not bring them into your warm and cozy den. (Not real ones please - they'd take over your blankets).

Don't let your creativity stop at brown bears, there are many breeds of bear found in the wild. Some of you may prefer Polar Bears or Grizzly Bears instead.

If you are not into bears, use accessories with a variety of this beautiful animals such as moose, deer, elk, and even mountain goat.

Almost any mountain wildlife decor will help create the feel of a ski lodge retreat.

Flannel, micro-fiber, or micro-fleece sheets, pillows, blankets, and throws combine nicely together with ski lodge themed decor.

Use pillows and blankets in your winter decorating to add layers of warmth and comfort as well as visual appeal.

In my opinion, magazines are inspiring, fun to get in the mail, and are relaxing to read.

Inspiring - I find the best tool for inspiration are magazines. Yes, magazines may be a little more expensive than printing pictures and ideas off the computer, but when I find that one special photo that inspires me to move ahead, the cost of the subscription is well worth it. (Magazines make great gifts too. Seniors who aren't able to get out and about much, especially like looking at the pictures.) ...

Fun Mail? - Yes! Here comes the bills ... oh, and a beautiful magazine to flip through. Bring on the day-dreams!

Relaxing -  Would you rather set down with a nice cup of tea or hot coco in a comfy chair and flip through colorful pages in a magazine; or sit in front of your computer monitor searching for ideas? I personally prefer a cup of hot chocolate and a cozy chair after a long day.

To create a ski lodge themed room, or a log cabin room:

• Combine seasonal blankets and pillows to line your sofas, chairs, and bed.


• Light a few scented candles appropriate for the winter season, and more unscented candles.
