To enlighten you to the vast world of the manipulative arts, as well continue and strengthen these traditions, I have compiled this Directory of Everything Fun! Whether you are looking to learn a fun new skill, join a club or association, learn from a community of like-minded people, or want to find a vendor to buy props, you are in the right place.
I have spent many hours researching and compiling this information. I appologize for this site's tendency to be North American centric and I fully appreciate that these arts flourish because of a diverse worldwide community. Used Juggling Equipment on Ebay
Tons of juggling equipment is bought and sold on eBay. Quality used equipment is often half the price of what you pay retail. When buying juggling equipment on eBay, it is best to purchase only the used equipment. Much of the new stuff is of cheap quality being sold by professional eBayers. Your best bet is to look for props by Dube. Renegade, Mr. Babache, Todd Smith, and True Canadian Balls. Some of the novelty stuff is alright too. Just remember, you get what you pay for. Pen Spinning

Bar Flair
If you ever saw the movie "Cocktails" and remember the bottle flipping and spinning done behind the bar, then you know what bar flair is. It is the spinning, flipping, tossing, flourishing, and otherwise excellent manipulation of bar tending equipment. Think bottles, shaker cups & lemons flying through the air with the mission of dazzling your eyes and quenching your thirst. Top Spinning
It is amazing the tricks that can be done with a top. These are the tops that are wrapped with string and then "thrown" to the ground.

Hat Manipulation
Most of us wear a hat. Many hats in most cases. So check out what some people do to put them on, take them off, or move them about! There aren't many sites concerning Hat manipulation. But just about every juggler I know has learned to turn a trick or two with a trusty bowler.

Paddle Balls
You know the game. A rubber ball attached by a long rubber band, to a paddle. Not too much out there on this illustrious prop, but there is stuff to see.

Devil Sticks - Flower Sticks
A devilstick set consists of a devilstick (center stick) and two handsticks (also called control sticks). The art of devilsticking is to keep the center stick in the air using the two handsticks. Flower Sticks are have 'flowers' on the end of the center stick, slowing it down and making it a bit easier to learn.

Ball Spinning
Spin a ball on your finger. Spin a ball on a ball spinning on your finger. Maybe even spin some on your toes. Ball spinning is fun and easy. No international associations here, so you have to hunt and pick for your information.

Diablo
The diablo is like a yo-yo that comes off the spring. You get it spinning with a string tied between two handsticks. High throws, around the body, fancy string work are all part of this exciting prop!

The stacking and unstacking of turned over cups...FAST!

Zippo Lighter Tricks
I have heard that Zippo used to maintain a site for lighter tricks but no more. My guess is that people started burning down houses and they decided to no longer encourage people to play with fire. I did manage to find one site for your reference though.

Footbag (aka hacky sack)
Hacky Sack is the brand and Footbag is the sport. It's keeping a bean bag (or sack) off the ground using your feet and body, but no hands.

Volcanoball
Invented by the famous juggling duo, The Raspyni Brothers, the Volcanoball is a newcomer to the skill toys scene. Comprised of a tube and a couple of balls, this prop has lots of possibilities! It hasn't caught on enough to warrant an association yet...but if the baton twirlers get into it, it will only be a matter of time.

Balisong - Butterfly Knives
This is the art / sport of opening and closing knives. Not really sure it belongs in this list as it could be considered a form of martial art (I have excluded martial arts from this site for the time being). But I know many magicians use butterfly knives in their acts so I decided to include it.

Freestyle Frisbee
In the sport of freestyle frisbee, athletes perform tricks with a flying disc; usually lighter than an Ultimate disc, freestyle discs are about 160g. It is an extreme version of throw and catch and is often looked at as hacky sack with a disc.

Cigar Boxes
Cigar boxes are a kind of popular juggling prop, popularised by W C Fields, which can be used for various tricks, including high-speed box exchanging midair, balancing tricks, and more.

Tennis Ball in Can
Surprisingly, there are no international associations devoted to this genre of juggling. But there are some remarkable things that can be done with a couple of balls and a can.

Shaker Cups / Nesting Cups
Shaker cups, also called nesting cups are juggling props that bear the same resemblance to bartending cocktail shaker cups. Shaker cups designed specifically for juggling are heavier, and have some sort of spacing mechanism to keep them from sticking when you catch one inside another. They are used in a juggling-like way, sometimes.

Indian Club Swinging
Swinging 2 clubs around your body. Thought to have originated in India as a strength training exercise. Many jugglers, poi swingers, and staff manipulators use these sorts of moves. Is a martial art, a wellness regimen, or a wacky clown trick...you decide.

String Figures
Creating images with a loop of string and fingers. I struggled trying to determine if this had a place on the list, but figured it does cause a few of the other variety arts use string. Think Yo-Yo's, Tops, and Diablos.

This is a newcomer to the skill toys. You get a cup, a bunch of dice, and you stack, unstack, and otherwise move around dice.

Hula Hoops
Hula Hoops are a big, plastic hoops that are traditionally spun around the hoopers waist. They date back to at least 3000 years but it took the 1950's to become mainstream in America. The Hula Hoop is again experience a resurgence and, in the age of the extreme, the tricks are growing complex.

Bilboquet - kendama - Cup and Ball or Ring and Pin Games
It's a wooden ball connected by a string to a stick with a cup. The object is to swing the ball up and catch it in the cup. Or catch the ring on the pin. I found very little about this toy and there was no international association or governing body for this toy. I was shocked.

- A Monowheel is sort of like a unicyle... except that you ride inside the wheel...and most of them are motorized. Truthfully, this link does not belong on the site as it a stretch to call it a "manipulative" art. But I just had to share it because they look just so incredibly fun to ride. Except for the RIOT Wheel. That is an 1,110 pound engine/wheel/counter-weight contraption that you ride out in front of.

What is classified as a variety art?
I tried to include activities where an inanimate object is animated with one's body.
I stayed away from things related to martial arts (nun chucks, Bo, etc.), things that don't lend them selves to 'tricks' (boomerangs), things you stand or sit on (unicycles, walking globes, rola bolas), and things that don't finish how they started (balloon twisting, origami)
But I can be swayed! I you can argue for an items inclusion, let me hear it! Send me and email and I will consider your suggestions.
I stayed away from things related to martial arts (nun chucks, Bo, etc.), things that don't lend them selves to 'tricks' (boomerangs), things you stand or sit on (unicycles, walking globes, rola bolas), and things that don't finish how they started (balloon twisting, origami)
But I can be swayed! I you can argue for an items inclusion, let me hear it! Send me and email and I will consider your suggestions.
