my own "skinny" horse
I don't think "skinny" is ALWAYS bad.
Above you will see a registered Tennessee Walking Horse gelding, the day after we purchased him and brought him home. He was slightly underweight at the time, with teeth that needed the services of an equine dentist badly, but he gained quickly and is now at a good, healthy weight.
Some horses are harder to keep weight on. Whether it is due to illness, activity level or dental issues, this is correctable with good horsekeeping practices.
HEALTHY
You should always try to keep your horse at a healthy weight.
More than moderately thin is a correctable condition.
More than moderately fat is also a correctable condition.

Get that horse on a treadmill already! Obesity in horses can lead to dangerous health concerns, some deadly. Skip the sugar cubes and cut back on the grain if your horse shows signs of hippo-butt.
