How to Have Young Looking Skin

People think that I am 10 to 15 years younger than I am.  I am 51 years old but usually pass for 35.  I don't have any education in skin care but I do have personal experience.  Maybe some of what I do could help someone else.  None of my ideas should do any harm at least and who knows maybe it will provide some benefit to you.  The sooner you begin the better for your skin.  Even if you cannot do everything on this list whatever you do will provide you with benefits.

Skin care tips

Wash your face every morning with water. I use plain water in the morning. If I cleaned my face the night before how dirty could it have gotten overnight?

In the evening is usually when I shower so I just wash my face in the shower. I don't use the same cleansers all the time because I feel that it is better for your skin to switch around some. One that I like is a grapefruit soap which you can find further down.

I remove my makeup with extra virgin olive oil. I sometimes also use olive oil on my face and lips as a moisturizer.

Do not use harsh brushes or other scrubbers such as that on your face.

For moisturizing lotion I also switch around. Burt's Bees Carrot lotion is one that I like. See more about it below.

Eat healthy nutritious food. Fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and beans and eggs. I choose to eat meat although I mostly eat poultry and fish. Grass fed free range meats and wildcaught fish are my preferences. I prefer organically grown produce when possible.
Avoid hydrogenated oils as much as possible. I use extra virgin olive oil for almost everything. I use butter also. I never use margarine or shortening. Read labels when you shop so you know what you are really buying. Avoiding healthy fats is unhealthy for your body and your skin.

Don't smoke. Smoking is damaging to the skin in many ways. Smoking also causes squinting of the eyes and puckering of your mouth. It does not help your teeth to be attractive either.

Fresh air and sunshine. If you live in the city and can get away once in a while that would be very helpful. Even in your own backyard or a nearby park or hiking trail would be great. I do not use sunscreen except for more natural types. Also, as a brunette with medium skin tone I don't tend to burn at all. The sun provides us with Vitamin D as long as we are out for a reasonable amount of time and don't use typical sunscreens. If you have lighter skin and tend to burn you will want to be more careful about that. I never just go out to get a tan. How boring! If I am outdoors I want to be doing something - hiking, working in the yard, playing a sport, etc

Exercise. What a great reason to be outdoors. Find something you enjoy doing and do it regularly. Also, find something you can do indoors for times when the weather isn't so nice.

Don't wear anymore makeup than you really feel that you need. I only wear eye makeup because I don't feel that I need anything more. For makeup you do use check the ingredients and try to use only those that will be beneficial to your skin or at least not detrimental. Whatever makeup you use make sure you thoroughly remove it every evening.

Consume essential fatty acids. Fatty acids are required by the body for many functions one of which is keeping the skin moisturized. My preference is flax seed oil in capsules.

Avoid products containing mineral oil - labeled mineral oil, petroleum, or petrolatum. These have no place in or on your body. They are in many skin care and "food" products including many gummy fruits. Mineral oil is a petroleum product and can rob your body of Vitamin A and clog pores.

Drink plenty of water. Soda pop, tea, coffee, alcoholic drinks don't count. Water keeps the skin hydrated and flushes toxins from the body. You wash the outside of your body so why not wash the inside.

Get the proper amount of sleep and at the proper times. Sleep before midnight is said to be more beneficial than sleep after midnight. Don't believe it? Try it out for yourself and see if you can tell a difference. Consistent sleep is a good idea too - try to go to bed at about the same time every night.

Reduce stress in your life. We all have stress. Exercise, meditation, prayer, relaxing vacations can all help. Is there a way to eliminate some of your stresses permanently? Change occupations, avoid toxic people, bring in more income, manage your finances well, take better care of your health, find a way to help and serve others?

Don't drink alcohol, caffeinated drinks, or use drugs except when needed for a health condition. All these things are hard on the liver and other organs of the body which in turn stresses the body.

Do something you enjoy on a regular basis - listen to or play music, travel, learn something new.
