The Sweet History of Skittles Candy began in 1974. Skittles first started to be imported for sale in the United States in that year. In the 1980s, Skittles that were sold in the US also began to be produced in the US as well . A wide variety of different flavors have been released over the years including Sour Skittles, Wild Berry Skittles and Tropical Skittles.  More recently Smoothie Mix Skittles, Chocolate Mix Skittles, Skittles Crazy Cores and Skittles Gum have been added to the ranks.

The oldest skittles product is Original Fruit Skittles, which was originally released in Europe in 1974. It subsequently was introduced to the United States in 1979. They continued to be manufactured in Europe and exported to the US up until 1982.

The most recent, Crazy Cores, was released in 2008. Earlier Skittles products tended to focus on fruit flavors. More recent products have branched out to include flavors such as chocolate, bubble gum, popcorn, mint, and sours. Skittles products also come in a wide variety of colors also. Skittles sweets often use the same colors for candies with different flavors. For example, the color yellow is associated with lemon flavor in Original Fruit Skittles and as banana berry in Tropical Skittles.

Skittles Candies are small, round fruit chews that come in hard, sugar shells with the letter "s" printed on them, representing the sweet's name. They are similar in outward appearance to the plain variety of the chocolate M&M's, which, like Skittles, are produced by Masterfoods, a division of Mars, Incorporated.

Skittles the Candy or Bite Size sweets are originally from England. They were first introduced in the United States in 1974. Around 1981-1982, the production of Skittles began in the United States. Mars Incorporated makes them for export to many European Union markets. Skittles are not kosher and are not vegetarian in the USA as they contain gelatin, as oppose to the European recipe which does not. The main Skittles advertising theme is "Taste the rainbow", which has been reworked for different campaigns.

The history of the Mars candy company. Frank C. Mars and his wife Ethel started the Mars company back in 1911. As a boy, Frank was making candy with his Mom. Later, he and his wife Ethel began producing candy in their kitchen in Tacoma, Washington . It was from these humble beginnings, that the giant, multi-national Mars candy company was grown.
