D-Link DPH-50U Skype Phone Adapter Review
We take a look at the D-Link DPH-50U Skype Phone Adapter and give you an honest review of the product.
D-Link DPH-50U Installation
Calling Long Distance has never been this easy - or cheap.
After I had purchased my USB phone adapter, I took it home and set it up.
Installation was really simple, provided you know how to plug in a USB cable and the phone cable.
Next, you install the software (and Skype if you haven't done it yet) and that is about it. After a reboot, you are set to go.

D-Link DPH-50U Review
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
I called a friend's house and the call was clear, though there was a faint echo. The echo could be attributed to my phone, or to the effects of my wireless network.
My next call was to my sister 600 Km away. By the second call, I was getting the hang of the button pressing sequence to make calls with the box. You would push "##" then the country code, and then dial the number as you normally would. At the end, you push " * " so that the box knows to use Skype to make the call.
The clarity of the long distance call was okay, with a slight delay between me talking and my sister hearing it - more noticeable than using a regular land line phone.
All in all, the phone adapter proved itself to be useful and true to what the product was supposed to be.
We did encounter some problems a couple weeks later with dropped calls - but it was Christmas season, and it could just be that the lines were busy.
So, after four months of use since I took it out of the package, I would give the product "two thumbs up" for quality, usefulness and reliability - it is something I would recommend without hesitation to my friends.

I have this adapter and it is a real pain in the butt. You need to dial 15 numbers just to get a local number. I use skype all the time but it is on my pc and I have a headphone so it works fine. I had a skype phone and it worked better than this adapter, but I didn't like it due to delay. But between the two, I'd take the skype phone over this.

I love Skype Out and Skype In. I think I have what's called the Skype Pro package. I loved the price - I have unlimited calling in Canada and US for the entire year at less cost than I used to pay for one month.
I use Skype to make ALL my "long" calls - like to a training class or a conference call. I use it too when I am calling an associate.
As for the the Skype In - that's the number I now have on all my web pages. If I'm not online when someone calls me, they go to voice mail and I call them back when I get back to my office.
I did go and buy a headset when I started using Skype for most of my long distance. I've had great connections 95% of the time and only once can remember not getting into a conference call.
I highly recommend it.

Ever since I have had Skype Out, I have been debating whether or not I should just get rid of my regular landline, because I don't really need it.
Thanks for the review of the phone adapter - I'll have to get one and then I don't have to sit at the computer to call long distance anymore.
