When people ask you what you do for a living, is it a complicated answer?
A Slash career - a person who currently makes a living from more than one of their talents; particularly one being self-employed in one or more of their jobs.
Or sometimes called the "man of many hats."
You are the man (or woman) of many hats.
I think it comes from a time, not long ago, when everyone wore hats & many of those hats were specific to a given trade, official position or function. So someone who had several roles would have several hats & would wear the appropriate one for the occasion. For instance, if a man who was an admiral, a Lord Lieutenant of a county and Chancellor of a university, each of which
has an impressive ceremonial hat, was going to an official function; the question "which hat will you be wearing?" would mean "in which capacity will you be attending?" He simply cannot wear all three hats...that would be silly.
How many hats do you wear?
