Are there other treatments for Sleep Apnea?
Getting a doctor's advice is always recommended, but we hope you'll find our page helpful in educating yourself about sleep apnea treatments.
CPAP is the number one treatment for sleep apnea
The most common treatment for sleep apnea is CPAP, which stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. A CPAP machine is a small unit the size of a shoebox which continuously pumps air into the patient, acting as a splint between the upper airway and windpipe. This pressure keeps the airway open and the patient sleeping.
Early CPAP machines were primitive with a mask that covered the entire mouth making for a very uncomfortable experience. Now most CPAP machines consist of a nasal mask blowing air down the nasal passage, getting the same results and giving more comfort to the patient.
