Or, you may be at the point where you are needing to transition your baby from being rocked in the rocker to putting himself to sleep in the crib. Ouch! That's a tough one! But the problem that really seems to get to parents is getting baby to sleep through the night. Hopefully, if any of these issues sound familiar, you can find some helpful advice here!

It's Nap Time Baby!
The Most Common Nap Problems- What's A Mother To Do?

The two most common baby nap issues are when babies begin resisting naps, or when their naps are too short. Both of these problems relate to each other, and you need to get to the root cause in order to resolve them once and for all.
RESISTING NAPS
So is your little cutie just rubbing her watery little eyes, but stubbornly refusing to fall asleep? This can be a common sleep problem for babies around a year old. They may be close to that transition period when they start to drop that second nap. Usually babies have two naps a day, mid-morning and late afternoon. It's not common for them to drop the second nap until about 15 months, but some babies start to do this early. If your baby is younger and refusing a siesta, you can help by being consistent with your routine. Don't wait until you see her spacing out before you try to transition her into nap time. If possible, shoot for the same basic time frame each day. Use the same method, whatever you have found works for your baby- reading a book, taking a bath, singing a lullaby, etc. Even if you find yourself having to be somewhere at his scheduled nap time, and he falls asleep in the car, simply leave him strapped in and bring the entire car seat inside with you. You can set the car seat next to you while you go about whatever you need to do. QUICK NAPS
So you've finally gotten little piglet to sleep! The problem is...she wakes up in twenty minutes even more tired and crabby than before! Resisting naps and short naps both tie in to some of the same issues. Is your baby overtired? If you wait too long before starting the nap process it can cause your baby to sleep lightly and wake quickly, or worse- not be able to get to sleep at all. A general rule is that babies should take their first nap 2 hours after waking up. If you wait much longer than that, you are going too start running into trouble. Another thing to think about is baby's nap environment. This includes everything from where they are sleeping to the clothes they are wearing. Check their comfort level- this may seem obvious, but there are so many little things that babies can't tell us about what they are feeling. Rockabye Baby...

LEAVING THE ROCKER BEHIND
It can be one of the most special times between Mommy and baby. But what do you do when you baby starts squiggling around in that rocker because she's just too big to get comfortable? There are many different reasons why parents may decide to start teaching their baby to fall asleep without being rocked. Whatever your reason is, you are likely going through some heartbreak over your efforts! Your baby has grown dependent on not only your presence, but the rocking motion in order to fall asleep. There are many different methods to help ease your baby into putting himself to sleep. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. You will have to discover what works best with your baby's unique set of needs.
-The most important thing to remember is that no matter what you find yourself doing, REMAIN CONSISTENT! No matter how heartbreaking or tough it gets, don't change it up after two weeks or so, because then you will have to start all over and you have done nothing but confuse the poor baby.
-Many parents start out by standing next to the crib and rocking the baby back and forth in their arms. Get her nice and relaxed. Whisper to her, gently caress her head. Then when she begins to feel heavy, go ahead and lay her down softly. This is a good way to begin whatever method you choose for the transition, because baby starts out relaxed.
-You can rub or pat his back. Sometimes the rhythmic motion helps to relax them and gives a sense of security.
-Your baby may be one of those who begins to wail the moment you start to walk away. Some parents have had success with the method of leaving the room slowly, but mostly its better to treat the situation like a band-aid and just do it quick. There are folks out there who have said they made it through the crying by returning to their baby's room in increments of 5 or 10 minutes, just to let them know they are not alone. However, this does tend to increase the crying for some babies, and in reality it might just be dragging out the whole process. In either case, both sides report that after a couple weeks at the very most, baby has become used to soothing himself to sleep.
Self-soothing is a useful tool for the future, and it sure does help when you begin encountering the nap issues listed above!
The Big Sleep...Getting Baby To Sleep Through The Night!
"Help! Nobody's Getting Any Sleep!"
When a parent has trouble getting baby to sleep, they usually become desperate for a full night's rest. This is perhaps one of the most common problems new parents face. There are so many things that may be contributing to this issue, but each baby is unique. You need to find out what it is that is effecting your child in particular. The first step I recommend is to download The Instant Baby Sleep mp3. Do that now by CLICKING HERE! Aside from the benefits you will gain from that, here are some additional tips and information:
-Premature babies are actually less likely to sleep through the night.
-If your baby is 4-6 months old, he still NEEDS to wake up a few times in the night to eat!
-Is Mommy depressed? According to the latest research, there isn't a proven link that Mom's depression is causing baby to wake in the night. However, it has shown that babies who have depressed Mothers tend to experience frequent night waking. In fact, babies who live in households going through stressful situations in general are shown to be more wakeful in the night.
-Check baby's Pj's. Look for itchy tags, and make sure they are a comfy fit. Also keep the material appropriate for the temperature. Always use only baby detergent for her clothes, as anything else will cause itchiness or irritation.
-Your baby may be experiencing a formula sensitivity. Check with your baby's doctor to see if you need to switch formula.
-The ever-dreaded colic...this topic could fill it's own lens. Again, ask your doctor if your baby may be experiencing colic. If this is the problem, it will usually disappear at around six months.
-Your baby may groan through the night during the REM sleep phase. This is not a time when you need to take him out of the crib. Just let him be, and it will pass!
There are millions of books and articles dedicated specifically to this topic. Everyone claims to have "The Magic Technique!". Surely there is no one right way, or easy fix.
