SLEEP PARALYSIS - THE REAL THING
This is a story about sleep paralysis, hallucinations, terror and the total consumption of fear. Ring any bells with anyone?
I simply can not be the only person in the world to suffer from this condition, a sleeping condition that really frightens you half to death and worst of all seems so real.
If this is you read on.
This is my compelling story of my own sleep paralysis hallucinations.
Sleep Paralysis Stories
A Meeting With Elvis
So here goes.
One night, several months ago I went to bed as normal (the only difference was I had gone to sleep in the spare room as my husband wanted a break from my snoring - yes women really do snore.) LOL
Once in bed I settled down to go to sleep but for some reason sleep did not seem to come - or so I thought.
I lay there and for some weird reason I started to sing the words to an Elvis song in my head, not out loud, only in my head. I can vividly remember the song, it was With Suspicious Minds".
As the words floated around in my head I felt warm and secure as though nothing could hurt me, I was totally safe. After what was probably only a minute or so I realized that the words I was singing to myself had become very crystal clear and the words had become very pronounced and pure.
The singing also started to get louder and louder and I realized that I was somehow managing to sing all the words in the song, when in reality I only knew the main chorus line and a few words in between.
This is when I started to get freaked. I became absolutely terrified, I kept my eyes tight shut and hoped whatever was happening would stop and go away.
My body totally froze (Sleep Paralysis) although at this time I had no idea what sleep paralysis was and thought I was having a spooky freaky moment. To say I was terrified does not really convey the total fear I was going through at this time.
As I lay there trying to block all this out I suddenly felt the side of my bed go down, as if someone was sitting next to me on the bed. The next thing I knew I was being pushed out the bed ( by what I don't know.)
My whole lower body from my hips down was being forced out the bed ( at this point I was still unable to move (sleep paralysis).
After what seemed to be forever I got control back over my own body. I was able to move freely and whatever I had just experienced simply disappeared.
As you can imagine - I was so scared and really really freaked and to make matters worse my bottom half of my body from the hips down where actually hanging out of the bed.
At this point I banged the lamp on and ran out of the bedroom to my husband.
Who at about 3.00 in the morning was more then a little bemused as to what I was doing.
If you have ever experienced anything like this I truly do feel sorry for you. It all feels so real.

- I've read that during some parts of normal sleep our bodies do go into a type of paralysis, then it relaxes. I've also read about sleepwalking while appearing awake - some people who take sleeping aids have been filmed/followed by family members who witnessed their strange behavior. It must be quite unnerving to experience this sleep disorder.

- I experienced sleep paralysis for the first time I clearly remember a few nights ago. I know I've had bad nightmares since I was a kid. Less frequently as an adult (currently 22) I've had terrifying nightmares. I only remember a flash of the dream or nothing at all but I was left with my entire body shaking and and more scared than ever before in my life. Thats when I came to the conclusion I was having panic attacks in my sleep.
The other night though was the scariest one of all. It felt like I was awake for the dream. I remember feeling like I was spinning around with lots of momentum then I saw a flash of the sky filled with stars. That part felt really peaceful though, I felt like I knew it wasn't happening to me. I remember trying to wake up from that, like I knew the dream wasnt right and I was ready to stop it.
That's when I woke up in my bed and heard all of my family downstairs and wanted to get up to shake it off but couldn't. I got super scared because I felt trapped in the dream. Like I knew I would die if I didn't wake up. I struggled to open my eyes and the next thing I remember was being on the stairs laying on my side and feeling trapped. It was such a horrifying feeling. I felt like I was fighting with my whole body but nothing would move and I just knew I was in danger.
Then I remember "waking up" in my bed only to realize I wasn't really awake. It was such a horrible, trapped feeling all while I knew I was in danger if I didn't wake up more. It felt like I struggled for minutes to get my eyes open. When I did get them open there was a dark shadowy figure in the corner of my room. I could make something out in the dark and I "knew" it was there.
When I finally woke up for real I was so panicked. My whole body was absolutely trembling like ive never felt before. The worst feeling of my life. I was filled with such terror and horror. I grabbed a notebook and sluggishly wrote down anything I could so I would remember it in the morning. It was like my body was filled with sludge, it was so hard to move. I knew if I fell back asleep I would die. I knew for sure I would stop breathing and it would be over. I finally gave in because I would have rather died than be that scared.
I only remembered the next morning when I was wondering why my lights were on and some of it came back to me but I was able to recall more because of my notes from the night before. I immediately thought I was going crazy and I should never tell anyone. I stayed up as late as I could the next night only to cry hysterically in bed because I knew I couldn't go back to sleep in case it happened again.
With a little research online I was able to figure out what was going on with my body. It was so relieving when I realized other people had been through this and I knew I wasn't crazy. When it happened the next night I woke to hear noises and immediately thought "Oh, I know what this is" then it got louder and I just thought "Uggghhh this is so ridiculous I know what this is". I didn't remember it happening when until later the next day when I was thinking how glad I was it didn't happen again. I was happier when I realized it did and how calm I was and went back to sleep peacefully.
Im so sorry for anyone who has to go through this but I can tell you it helps to find someone who doesn't think your crazy and to really talk about it and get it all out. It will help you feel less trapped in your mind about it.

- Hi my name is Tamika I am 17 years old from Miami. I suffer from this sleeping disorder called Sleep paralysis. I think its way deeper than what researchers make it to be. You can only understand it if you experienced it. See it's not like I'm some ordinary teenager, I'm a child of god and I'm aware that the enemy would try to mess with you and do all types of things to pull me away from him. But it's sort of impossible due to the fact that I'm a strong believer. I'm not trying to turn my story into a religion thing but I think it is significant that I portray that in this sorry. Well about this thing called ?Sleep paralysis? I always had it since I was little. It would be like every other night or week I go to sleep and feel like something was holding me down. It is so scary but I learned to live with it but the thing is so random that I never understood it. It's not just a house thing because I experienced it almost everywhere and anywhere. Sometime it will happen when I'm not really sleepy at all. As I grew older this thing got worst, I prayed so much and so hard. There was a time in my life where it stops. But last night it came back it was so scary. I was on the phone with my boyfriend and he was talking about life as usual and I became sleepy. He prayed like we do every night and then I'm off to sleep. It started instantly usually I feel its presence when it is about to happen but not this time. First I had a bad dream or vision that my aunt friend was going to get in a car accident from driving drunk. That night I went to the sports bar with my aunt and friends but I didn't have any alcohol but they drank a little so that explains the dream. But when I tried to wake up I couldn't I tried to fight it like all the time but I wasn't sure If it was happening because it felt different I tried to move my hands and I thought I did because I saw it but everything was moving slow. Next thing you know I can feel hands place on my shoulders on each side because I was lying on my back. Then I can feel myself shaking from side to side and laughing really hard and then it stop. Suddenly I began to pray and the hands that was on my shoulders I felt press down really hard and it happen again. When it stop, my brother was calling my name because he wasn't sure if I was asleep because he said I looked weird. And I told my boyfriend what happen and he prayed for me. He experienced this too sometime so he knows how I feel when I tell him about it. I cried so hard because I didn't know what I did to let this sprit come back. I read stories from people that have the same problem but much worse. They said people would actually whisper in their ear. This is not normal there is spirits out there who mess with people while there sleeping. It's something more than Sleep paralysis. It happens again when I woke up this morning but not as worst as last night. I would continue to pray and help others to do the same because it can go away but this sprit is very strong but never stronger than God so I put this in his hand and try not to worry because it is hard. If you have any questions feel free to email me at shanice_west@yahoo.com or leave comments. Thank you!

- Dear reader,
I am a Pastor of an Independent Baptist Church who deals on the front line of spiritual matters every moment of my life. I experience what I call paralyzers 3 times a week. It all began when I was 19 years of age, I am currently 50 years old. I as others do, have experienced movement in the room upon their entry as well as their language being spoken. They are sometimes black shadowing human looking figures that have extraordinary speed and strength. I have learned many ways to combat them as well as allowing them to go as far as they can with me. They appear to be harmless, but true to those who experience the visit from beyond can be frighting. There is so much that I have undergone in the years that it has become a second nature to me. Also may I conclude that there is so much more to be known about what is called Sleep Paralysis that I would find a honor to share with you.

- Hello Pastor,
I have been experiencing similar symptoms for the past 4-5 years, though recently the occurrences have become more frequent and vivid in nature. Your story intrigued me as I recently had an experience where I heard a voice but in a muffled tone and was not in English. As a Presbyterian, I've always turned to prayer, but I find the episodes get worse when I do. When I came across the sleep disorder called Sleep Paralysis, I was both relieved and confused. Relieved that I finally found a name to what I was experiencing yet confused because the episodes I read about are somewhat similar to some of mine, but I haven't come across any that are exact. I am interested on what more you have to say on the subject, being torn between science and religion on this topic. Many thanks and look forward to hearing from you.
