Slovenia is in Europe

Slovenia

Slovenia is a quite small country in the south part of the central Europe (see small green spot on the map above). It is ex-Yugoslav republic bordering Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. If you look at the map of the Europe you can find it on the right side of north Italy. Of if you look at top point of the Adriatic Sea you can find Slovenia on the north-east side.

Slovenia has about 2 million people, official language is Slovenian despite most people (especially younger) can speak also English and also German or Italian language. Slovenian territory size is about 20.000 square kilometers.

Best time to visit Slovenia

When is the best time to visit Slovenia?

The short answer can be anytime cause each part of the year has its advantages and weaknesses. I will try to give you some advices about each season of the year and what is the best to do it that season.

Winter - Slovenia has many ski slopes or cross-country skiing tracks so if you are winter sports lover you will have many options. Even if you don't like to ski you can enjoy in hiking in the beautiful nature covered with snow. In winter is also nice to visit some of the many spas (water parks) in the eastern side of Slovenia where you can also swim in the hot water in the open-air swimming pools while it is snowing outside or warm up your bones in some of many saunas. Slovenia has a lot of caves so you can visit them cause no matter of the season there is mostly same temperature any time of the year.

Spring - Nowadays weather can be very unpredictable anytime but usually in spring it is even more unpredictable. But anyway at least in the first days of spring it is still possible to ski on some ski slopes (Krvavec, Vogel, Rogla, etc.). Spring can be nice cause it is still not so hot so you can enjoy in hiking, visit old town centers, ride bicycle, etc.

Summer - Summer is the most hot part of the year and also the most crowded with tourists, especially at the must see tourist spots like Bled, Postojna Cave, Piran, etc. But anyway you can still find nice lonely places or relax in the shade drinking cold beer. Summer is nice to visit Soca Valley where you can join some rafting or kayaking. Summer is nice to hike in the mountains despite you should be careful about some thunderstorms that usually happen in the afternoon.

Autumn - Autumn is similar as spring except there is no skiing possibilities. In autumn it is less tourists but still nice to visit towns, hike in the mountains or visit best tourist spots but with much less crowds and less hot. So you can enjoy in walks around Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj or along coast between Piran and Portoroz.
