Face Painting Small Designs On Kids--Small Face Painting Designs Are So Much Fun!
I first started painting small face painting designs not that long ago. Yep, that's right; I never practiced face painting before. However, I do practice decorative painting and have been doing that on and off for years. I don't know if that gave me an edge on learning how to face paint, but I believe the learning curve was shortened because I had some artistic experience.
I don't even remember what made me think of trying face painting designs on my kids except that I was just walking through Michael's craft store with my five-year-old daughter at the time and saw a small face painting for kids face painting kit and thought it might be fun to try. I bought the Rainbow Face Painting Kit (that's what I used to paint the butterfly on her face in the picture to the left).
When we got home, I opened up the face painting kit, and realized that there weren't many designs to choose from. I went to the internet and found some small designs here and there that I thought I could copy. In addition, I looked at some YouTube videos.
After I did all this, I tried my first face painting butterfly design on my daughter (there are lots of butterfly stencils on Amazon), and I was hooked! It was so much fun, and she loved it! She loved it so much, that she ran across the street to tell her little friend to come over so that she could have her face painted too. Let me just say, the girls had fun that day, and Mom kept very busy!

Face painting small designs are quick, easy & fun!
I think the easiest way to get started painting small face painting designs, is by face painting small designs on cheeks.
Your face painting designs can be simple, and face painting designs on cheeks can be done quickly.
After realizing that I truly enjoyed face painting, and understood the limitations of the small face painting kit that I purchased (the book that came with it only had a few designs in it), I scoured the internet for a face painting guide I could download immediately so I could start learning some more designs. This led me to a great Face Painting Design Book. I purchased it, and downloaded it right away.
What I liked about it was that every part of the book is based on what face painters like you and me wanted to know. It's not about being able to paint Picasso on someone's face, is being able to paint what the kids like. It's being able to paint the most popular cheek art designs for someone's birthday party, a charity event or a school party.

I actually took an image from a garden decor book and painted that on my daughter's friend's forehead. It was a vine with little pink and purple flowers, and green leaves. It was very "fairy" like. She loved it!

Small Face Painting Designs Are Not Just For The Face!
Face painting on other parts of the body besides the face is called body painting.
You can do some really cool small designs on different parts of the body such as this snake I did on my son's arm. It's not a large design--I just wrapped it around his arm and gave it some detail to make it look mean and nasty. This was a design I did very quickly and was actually pretty impressed with myself after completing it!
Other places to face paint--er, I mean body paint--on kids would be the back of their hands, ankles & wrists (you could paint anklets or bracelets), neck, and legs. Again, get creative! Easy Face Painting has plenty of ideas for you to choose from.

Small Face Painting Designs On Kids-Great Home Business!
Think of all the places that you can find face painters: craft shows, birthday parties, corporate events, fairs, fund-raising events, and more.
In my research, I discovered that face painters can make anywhere between $50 and $150 an hour depending upon their experience, and/or venue. Just a side note-you don't have to be a skilled painter to be a face painter. If you can follow directions and learn the techniques laid out for you in a reference guide, then you can learn face painting. Just know that it will take practice and patience.
If this is something you decide to do, then best wishes and good luck to a long and lucrative career in face painting! However, if you just want to have fun with your face painting designs hobby, then by all means, enjoy yourself and have fun--your customers certainly will!

- I've done face painting before at kids fairs. It was always fun. I usually made a take along sheet of samples of designs for them to pick from.

- But some people's skin reacts badly to them and they take longer to remove. Glitter is also great for a quick, dramatic effect, but it gets everywhere and is very hard to get rid of!
