Small Home Garden Plans
You can grow plenty of healthy organic vegetables and other garden plants for you and your family using a small amount of space.
If you have an outdoor area around your home at least six feet by eight feet that gets at least nine to ten hours of unshaded daylight daily, you have a perfect area for starting a small garden.
Using raised beds for growing your garden plants will enable your garden to heat up quicker during the start of the growing season in the Spring and also provide good drainage and rooting areas for your plants. Raised growing beds are good growing soil that has been built up at least several inches higher than the ground level of you gardens location. These can be enclosed by a wood or stone border or simply left as raised mounds. Use access paths for your small home garden about one foot wide or less to provide the most growing area.

How to Start A Small Vegetable Garden
Start your garden in the early spring by laying out your raised bed growing areas with stakes and string. A rake and shovel can be used to form the garden beds and paths. Use a tiller to work the soil, this will be a good time to add compost to the soil. You should have enough compost to cover your gardens surface area at least one inch deep. You can also use grass clippings from your lawn. Don't till these in just place them on the surface of the tilled areas. What you want to grow in your home garden is up to you. Growing and planting tips for what you want to grow can easily be found online or at your local lawn and garden center.
