How To Grow A Small Vegetable Garden

Growing a small vegetable garden is no easy chore- however, in the end the benefits you will reap aren't just tasty. You will save yourself large sums of money each year, which is extremely important in the current financial climate. Also, you will be sure of exactly what you are eating, rather than risking consuming dangerous pesticides, herbicides and chemicals from bland and tasteless supermarket vegetables.

Here are three of the most important small vegetable garden tips that will help you grow delicious and nutritious vegetables to the best of your potential-

Firstly, you need to pick what you want to plant in your garden. A small, manageable vegetable garden that you can learn the basics on should not have more than three different types of vegetables.

The best way to pick is to list your top three vegetables then grow them. For example, my top three that I would use are carrots, potatoes and butternut pumpkin. However, your list will probably vary from this. By growing vegetables that you want to eat, you will be much more motivated to put in the hard yards and get the work done.

Secondly, it is important to realize that some vegetables are much easier to grow than others. When you first start of with a small vegetable garden, you want to make the process as easy as possible. Some easy veggies to start with are peas, beans, radishes, butternut pumpkin, capsicums and spinach. However, what you can grow also depends on the climate where you live. Therefore, it's advisable to visit your local gardening center and ask them what the best veggies to grow are.

Finally, it's important that realize that growing yourself even a small vegetable garden will have quite a steep learning curve. Don't go into it with the mindset that everything is going to be perfect, as it won't be. Accept the fact that you will make mistakes, and that you won't always have an easy time. However, realize that in the end, you will be more than amply rewarded by all your hard work! The benefits of growing a veggie garden definitely outweigh the doubts.
