Small Houses: My Secret to Sustainability

Small Houses aren't a new thing, but some people have never really considered any options other than paying a lengthy mortgage and being like into huge payments for the next 30 years. Sometimes the answers to life's problems lie in your very own backyard. I grew up thinking about such things like most boys, however I didn't get older and start thinking about building huge houses, well I did, but my lifetime of concern about the state of our environment quickly got me looking in new directions to solve our problems and I came up with many ideas only realize many other people were already doing them.

So here is a collection of the best ideas that I will be using in my upcoming projects with Kreative Kubits, as well as many that I still only dream of using one day.

Small Houses: Tumbleweed Houses

Small Houses: What the @#$! is a Tumbleweed House

Have you ever heard of Tumbleweed Houses? Neither had I until I started researching my ideas and found Jay Schafer was already doing it since 1997. This picture is one of his creations on a lake. If you look you can see exactly how tiny this house really is!

Many of these houses are 100 sqare feet or less, but they are costly works of art that kind of take the glamour out of having the house for me. After all if I'm going to pay $30,000 for a house... it's going to have to be really nice when I could perfectly well build it myself. Especially when they are so small. So what's the next logical step? Read more to find out!

Small Houses: Portable Storage Buildings

Portable Storage Buildings Make Great Small Houses

If you're more the do-it-yourself type like me, I'd much rather just start with the basic shell and finish it out from there. It saves me the hassle of designing and building the whole building and gets it in place quickly and efficiently. So I opted on purchasing a Derksen Portable Building, they will allow me to purchase the exact barn style lofted cabin that I have shown here without a credit check! Be sure to check out my price breakdowns at the bottom of the lense!

Derksen portable buildings rent-to-own was established as an alternative to mini-warehousing. Their no-strings attached plan allows you to have your own storage unit in your own backyard or business exactly when and where you need it. The low monthly rental rates are comparable to mini-warehousing rates per square foot and you are not required to fill out a credit application nor are you required to keep your building... however I do recommend keeping it if you pay for it. ;)
