All About Smiles
I tried to research the answer to this, but found nothing especially conclusive, just the same arguments from the same people. I do know, from work done by Daniel Stern et al 25 years ago, that infants are capable of relating much earlier than had ever been thought. I remember my friend, Angela holding her 2 weeks old daughter while talking to her twin sister Joanne, on the phone. When Angela put the phone next to Rachel's ear and she heard Aunt Joanne's voice for the first time, her face went to Angela, then to the phone.
What does this have to do with smiles? Everything I think. The babies are smiling and smiling is part of the primal package with crying and sucking. Humans smile, they smile universally and they do it from the beginning.
Quick question. What do you think of the Cheshire Cat's smile? What is he smiling about?
What Is a Smile?
A facial expression characterized by an upward curving of the corners of the mouth and indicating pleasure, amusement, or derision.Ok, folks, that's all we need to know. Right? Well, no, there are so many things to know about smiles.
Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit Bag and Smile, Smile, Smile!
"Everyone smiles in the same language". ~Author Unknown
Smiling is universal. All cultures do it. Some do it more, and some might want to eliminate it, but the smile is also a cultural event and it isn't done or judged the same everywhere. All cultures don't smile the same, nor do they read smiles in the same way.
Smiles are interpreted differently by Americans and Japanese
There is no right or wrong here, but the person who knows the smile culture of a citizen of another country, has an advantage. Be yourself, but know what the other person is thinking about what you do. Contradictory? Well, yes, but you can do it!
"Smiling is infectious,
You catch it like the flu.
Someone smiled at me today,
And I started smiling"

"A smile confuses an approaching frown. ~Author Unknown"
Pictures Do Lie
As wonderful as smiles are, they can't always be trusted. And pictures of smiles certainly can't always be trusted.First let me say that I was and am a Barack Obama supporter. That, folks, is why you see the two pictures here instead of one of Obama grimacing or smirking and McCain with a charming smile.
During the campaign we saw good of both, usually used by supporters or in their own ads. We also saw scary, creepy pictures of smiles of both of them always used by people who didn't like them and in their own adds.
So smiles are important, but never trust a still picture (as much as I love them) and consider the source. Don't be manipulated by someone who posts a still picture.
Smiles Aren't Always Great
The Temptations Gave Us a Song That Illustrates This Non Disney Cheshire Cat!
Smiling faces sometimes pretend to be your friendSmiling faces show no traces of the evil that lurks within
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don't tell the truth uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
The truth is in the eyes
Cause the eyes don't lie, amen
Remember a smile is just
A frown turned upside down
My friend let me tell you
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don't tell the truth, uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
Beware, beware of the handshake
That hides the snake
I'm telling you beware
Beware of the pat on the back
It just might hold you back
Jealousy (jealousy)
Misery (misery)
Envy
I tell you, you can't see behind smiling faces
Smiling faces sometimes they don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
(Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes)
(Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes)
I'm telling you beware, beware of the handshake
That hides the snake
Listen to me now, beware
Beware of that pat on the back
It just might hold you back
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
Your enemy won't do you no harm
Cause you'll know where he's coming from
Don't let the handshake and the smile fool ya
Take my advice I'm only try' to school ya
Smiling Faces, They Don't Tell the Truth: The Temptations
"Start every day with a smile and get it over with. ~W.C. Fields"
The Curmudgeon and the Smile
I have had times in my life when I wanted to be miserable. Sometimes it is just for an hour, and other times, like my adolescence it lasted for weeks. Nothing made me madder than when my Dad cajoled me out of it by trying to make me smile, or worse yet, laugh. Why did I dislike his doing that so much? Because it worked!!! And getting me in a better mood was a dastardly thing to do!Thus the famous curmudgeons knew what they were doing. If they suddenly started smiling, they wouldn't be able to be so miserable and thus would soon lose their careers! My oh, my.

Mona Lisa: That Most Famous Smile
Computer Analyzes Mona Lisa's Smile
"(CNN) -- Scientists analyzed the portrait of the Mona Lisa, a woman with famously mixed emotions, hoping to unlock her smile. They applied emotion recognition software that measures a person's mood by examining features such as the curve of the lips and the crinkles around the eyes."
Smile - Sunshine Is Good for Your Teeth.
We Americans love our teeth! We spend billions each year, and more and more of this is on cosmetic dentistry. Yes, we do it not for out health, or comfort in chewing, but for our smiles.Which is more important to you, health or a beautiful smile?
When You're Smiling the Whole World Smile At You!
So Do You Go to the Dentist for Your Health, or Your Smile
I recently had a front tooth pulled. There was an abscess. The surgeon wanted to schedule it for a month out. My dentist said no way, she could be dead by that time.
Hmmm...apparently teeth are a real health issue. Now, I could have left it at that, but I had bone transplants followed by a dental in plants. It took almost a year while I was toothless. Very interesting process. My daughter (an adult) was embarrassed. I got a lot of strange responses.
While I was brave enough to face the world toothless for a year, I also went for the more expensive in plant, which is more cosmetic.

Can You Judge Smiles?
Smiles are great for many reasons. But we all know that there are fake smiles and as the Temptations tell us, smiling faces can hide a snake.
This dual is about your confidence in trusting smiles. My hope is that you will share your experiences so that we can all learn.
How Confident Are You in Your Ability to Know If Smiles Are Real?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byI Have Proof That I Can Spot Fake Smiles
Can Smiles Be Faked?
Not very easily, according to this, Facial Expressions ."Chances are, you're not very good at faking a smile. You can raise the corners of your lips into a neat grin-as one does for the camera-and you can probably tighten your eyelids a bit to enhance the effect. But unless you're amused, excited, grateful, relieved, or just plain happy, you probably can't pull your cheeks up and your eyebrows down to form a smile that looks genuine. No more than one in 10 people can voluntarily control the outer orbicularis oculi, the muscles surrounding the eye sockets, with that much precision.
Paul Ekman has spent 40 years watching thousands of people try. An emeritus professor of psychology at the University of California at San Francisco, Ekman is a world authority on facial expressions. He is also extraordinarily skilled at faking them. In the course of cataloging more than 10,000 human expressions, he has taught himself to flex each of his 43 facial muscles individually. He can even wiggle his ears one at a time. "If only they had an Olympic event for facial athletes," he says."
So how come so many of us have been fooled by a false smile? Years of studying psychology tells me that it is some underlying desire to be fooled. It may just be an occasional thing, wanting to believe a salesman because we really like that red convertible, or a more chronic condition based on psychological issues.
Enjoy and believe smiles, just use your head also.

- Hello my dear -- smiles about stuffed cabbage being popular because I promote them so well -- is it gas or is it smiling over the cabbage? Your lens is adorable -- I remember talking with friends about how life is one big circle. You're born in diapers and that's how you end up. So, the next time you see a smile on an old guy's face, DON'T pull his finger. Oh, G-rated. ;) xoxoxo

My Bio

For Arrowsmith Printing 9/22/08
I was born into a small business, I believe that small business and entrepreneurs are the backbone of America and what has made us great. They are what made us great and will save us in these unsure times. I have never wanted to have a great job. Well, better a great one, than a boring dead end one, and I have had both. But I have never really wanted a job at all.
Don't get me wrong, I am a hard worker. I have worked a full-time job, a part time job and a private practice all at the same time for a lot of years in my past. It isn't the work, its the working for someone else. Never wanted to do that, and I don't understand those who want to do that.
When I was six months old my parents bought their first small town weekly newspaper in Iowa. This was back in the day, back when small town newspapers were not just advertising sheets. Perhaps there are still some of them that are real, I hope so.
So I came by this perverse nature naturally. My path to self employment has been different than theirs, but it has always been my path, my direction.
Growing up in Iowa, in the fifties, I also grew up politically conservative. By the time I was 30 I was radically left. Today? I am proudly liberal and what that means will be clearer as we progress.
However, I have had conflicts about 'taking advantage of people'. I now know that employing people is not automatically taking advantage of them, but it took a while for me to learn that nothing is intrinsically good or bad. Well, almost nothing.
I have educated myself in business, I have a small business and I have used EFT and other energy clearing methods to help me clarify the old conflicts and move forward.
My mission here is to provide a forum for people who want to work independently through one person businesses or through employing others and for whom the betterment of human kind is an important value. My lenses are about offering good products, teaching people about betting their lives, and using the money they make for their pleasure and the benefit of others.
That is how I see business and if you have a similar vision I invite you to my blog www.creatingbusinessenergy.com
