What is a S'more?
You may think it's simple. You may be surprised.
Goldie Silverman asks in Camping With Kids, "Does anyone need instructions for this sandwich of graham crackers, chocolate, and toasted marshmallows?" Yes, it's a simple treat, but there is as much room for unique S'mores as there is imagination next to a campfire or stove.
A S'more is just about any combination of chocolate, marshmallow, and graham crackers. I've seen S'more cupcakes, S'more gingerbread houses, even S'more flavored putting (I couldn't find the graham cracker in that one).
Most commonly, you roast a marshmallow, place it on a chocolate bar in-between two graham crackers.

History of S'mores
So simple and tasty, it came out of nowhere.

The earliest documented mention found so far is in a Girl Scout book of 1927. How exactly it came about, we don't know.
My personal theory is that however S'mores began, it was the simplicity and the tastiness that led to their wide-spread honor as a camping tradition.
