My Favorite Smothered Chicken Recipe

My fabulous smothered chicken recipe can be altered to fit anyones taste,budget or cooking style, Young and old will like this dish. This dish comes out very tender and full of flavor. Your family will praise you for preparing such a delicious meal.

Smothered Chicken 

This is one my family's favorite dishes.I do not have to call them twice for dinner.

First thing that I do is rinse off about 4 pounds of boneless,skinless chicken breast. I use an electric skillet so I spray a light coat of cooking spray on the pan to prevent sticking.Next I add chicken to medium to low heat skillet to cook slowly, if you prefer you can bake chicken in an preheated oven to 350 degrees. I would lightly season the chicken with salt and pepper and garlic powder.

Now, I would prepare my topping of choice or as we call it my gravy. I use 2 or 3 cans of cream of chicken soup. I add about 1/2 half can of milk and 1/2 can of water. Next I would add some diced up onion and chopped green bell pepper. Next I add the seasonings to the soup. I add ground cumin ,ground sage ,garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste. I will let this simmer until the onions and bell pepper get soft.

Then I would pour this over my chicken and continue to cook until it is bubbling nicely. You can change the soup to cream of mushroom and instead of onion and bell pepper use some extra chopped mushrooms.

  1. 1. electric skillet
  2. 1 (2) quart sauce pan
  3. wooden spoon
  4. wisk
  5. spatula
  6. fork for turning chicken

Ingredients Needed 

Everything that you will need to fix this dish. I am putting it in the amounts that I use for my family which are all hearty eaters.
  1. 1. 4 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast
  2. cooking spray if you are using an electric skillet
  3. 2 or 3 (10.5oz.) cans of cream of chicken soup
  4. 1 small onion diced
  5. 1 small green bell pepper
  6. salt
  7. pepper
  8. garlic powder
  9. ground cumin
  10. ground sage
  11. 1/2 soup can of milk
  12. 1/2 soup ccan of water

Family Time 

This dish is a great way to get the whole family to sit down at the table at the same time to eat. Comfort food to help easy the way to discussing their day.

I serve this dish with mashed potatoes, because we use the topping like gravy over the potatoes too. It would also be great with a rice side dish or maybe even some pasta,you decide, A nice green salad would be nice.
