Q. How can a movie title spawn so much buzz?

SoaP

It opens today.

A few months ago internet was crawling with campy hoopla, blogs, contests, web forums and even T-shirts, all because of the New Line Cinema film, Snakes on a Plane, or SoaP for short.

Somewhere at New Line Cinema, a genius has found a way to start a groundswell buzz about a movie that is in desperate need of help.

Now, the movie that's so bad it's good is almost here. I've seen trailers on TV and outdoor ads in Washington, DC. I hear 'snakes on a plane' is a huge buzzword in New York. All the buildup is coming to its end. And finally, when I perform my song "Snakes on a Plane" in public, people know what I'm talking about.

a movement, an industry, a fad, a hoax?

So bad, it's good?

Snakes on a Sub
There is a (made for TV) movie from 1974 called Fer-de-Lance. A crew member on a submarine has secretly brought aboard a container full of poisonous snakes which escape and bite key personnel...

Sounds kinda familiar. Snakes on a Sub would've been a much catchier title.

Airplane and submarine: aren't they both just enclosed metal cylinders? So is Snakes on a Plane considered a remake or a sequel or was Fer-de-Lance just the inspiration for SoaP?

'Snakes on a Plane' sssssssays it all, according to a story in USA Today.
