Natural Remedies to help you stop Snoring

Snoring happens when the passage of air through the nose and mouth is restricted. Snoring is the vibrations of respiratory (breathing) structures and its resulting sound due to air movement being blocked during breathing cycles while we sleep.

23% of the population is said to suffer from snoring. This condition can affect anyone at any age. However, men and overweight people are more prone to it.

Snoring can affect not only the snorer but also people nearby. You may have heard many wives complaining about their husbands snoring. Most snorers do not realize when they snore and snoring is often worse when a person sleeps on their back.

As the airflow becomes irregular, the soft tissues in the breathing passage will start to flap, making the irritating snoring sound.

Here are just few examples of what can cause your snoring...

1) Your tongue may drop into your throat when you sleep and block it. The tongue is a muscle and if that muscle is weak, then it's more likely to drop into the throat.

2) If your jaw is tense, then it may press on the breathing passages and narrow it. You are probably not aware of tension in the jaw muscles till you manage to relax it.

3) The Jaw may press on the breathing passage narrowing it. Often this is because of tension in the muscles around the Jaw that press it out of its normal healthy position.

4) Floppy, weak soft palate bang around like leaf in a wind. Some snoring surgeries deal with this by cutting of part of the soft palate or putting small plastic implants in it to make it firmer. Simple moving it in the right way few times a day will keep it firm and prevent it from flopping.

5) Any muscle that is tense or weak around the breathing passage can put a pressure on it and make you snore. Very common is tension in the shoulders and neck.

6) Anything that might gather in the throat, like fat or tar from cigarette smoke, will narrow the throat and cause snoring.

These are only 6 common blocks but there are many more.

So how can we naturally cure snoring? It's simple. We have to know where the air is being blocked that causes the snoring and open that passage to cure it. Sounds simple doesn't it. It is actually quite simple and effective. There are several excercises that can be done to open the respiratory passage and clear the blockage. These are simple breathing, neck, jaw and throat excercises that will help cure most snoring causes within a few weeks.

Another simple remedy to cure snoring is to elevate your head with pillows or raise the head of your bed several inches. Do sleep on your side and not on your back.

You should also not drink alcohol or smoke before going to bed. Alcohol relaxes your throat muscles and blocks your air passages even more.

Regular excercises and a healthy diet also helps reduce problem in the nasal passages and will help with snoring problems.

Another good home remedy to stop snoring is to make Eucalyptus tea: Soak 2 teaspoons of eucalyptus leaves to a boiling cup of water, drain and drink to stop snoring.

There are also several more remedies to help you stop snoring such as medications and techniques to widen and strengthen your respiratory passages for better air flow.

snoring according to wiki

Snoring is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound, due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. In some cases the sound may be soft, but in other cases, it can be rather loud and quite unpleasant. Generally speaking, the structures involved are the uvula and soft palate. The irregular airflow is caused by a passageway blockage and usually due to one of the following:

* Throat weakness, causing the throat to close during sleep

* Mispositioned jaw, often caused by tension in the muscles

* Fat gathering in and around the throat

* Obstruction in the nasal passageway

* The tissues at the top of airways touching each other causing vibrations

* Relaxants such as alcohol or drugs relaxing throat muscles

* Sleeping on one's back, which may result in the tongue dropping to the back of the mouth.

Statistics on snoring are often contradictory, but at least 30% of adults and perhaps as many as 50% of people in some demographics snore. One survey of 5,713 Italian residents identified habitual snoring in 24% of men and 13.8% of women, rising to 60% of men and 40% of women aged 60 to 65 years; this suggests an increased susceptibility to snoring as age increases.
