How I Broke My Way into Snowboarding!
Still having 5 days left of my holiday I was in a bar one afternoon when a couple of Canadian guys took pity on me and offered to let me have a go on their boards. I knew from that point I was hooked!
As a beginner to snowboarding I wanted some tips to get me started and began searching as soon as I got home. Of course there's no better way than to get out on the slopes for real to 'just do it.' Living hundreds of miles away from the nearest snow this wasn't so easy! I wanted to see someone demonstrate snowboarding techniques and moves and give me tips so that when I got back to the slopes I had a head start. Most of the movies and videos I found on snowboarding where either really expensive, dated, or just too advanced for me as a beginner.
The Snowboard Academy online resource is by far the best I've found so far and well worth a look

Essential Tips for Snowboarding Beginners
Before we go into the formula I've learned for a snowboarding beginner to get up to speed let's look at some essential basic tips.Appropriate clothing is essential. By that I don't mean the latest fashions and colours! You need snowboarding clothing which will keep you safe and warm and enable you to enjoy the experience. Wear a wicking material base layer and waterproof jacket and pants with wool socks. Avoid cotton as it absorbs and retains moisture (sweat!) and will make you cold.
Get used to having your feet fixed to the board. It may feel crazy but as a beginner to snowboarding spend some time at home just standing on your board and getting the feel of it. As you'll learn when you got onto the slopes snowboarding is all about how you move and shift your own weight to control the board.
Start with an all mountain board. There trainer boards for beginners but you'll outgrow this very soon if you're going to buy one and are serious about snowboarding.
Don't forget your sunblock! The kind that comes in a tube so you can carry in your pocket is the best.
Finally, be brave but not wreckless! You have to enjoy the experience and accept that you'll have a few falls and bumps. We all did it! Don't be affraid to get some speed up and you'll find it easier to balance and steer once you do - but don't go mad and 'run before you can walk!'
