SNOW DAY! Here's 25 fun things to do with kids!
Ranked #988 in Parenting & Kids, #32,435 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund, March of Dimes
Let it snow!
The weather outside is frightful, and you're stuck indoors with kids. Here are some ideas to pass the day with family fun!
#1-5
2. Break out an old board game. Candyland or Chutes and Ladders can even be fun for teens when you play it as a timed race.
3. Get out an old photo album and share stories of people and places from when you were your child's age.
4. Go online and make a family account at Ancestry, and begin researching your family tree together. How far back can you get?
5. Particulary dreary outside? Close the drapes and turn out the lights, and light candles. Tell ghost stories, or pick a book and read it aloud to your kids.
#6-10
7. Mostly girls? Pretend it is a day at the spa! Give each other facials, massages, makeovers or just paint your nails together.
8. Mostly boys? Try to take an interest in a video game, trading card game, or other favorite pastime of your little man/men, and see if you can compete.
9. Got cleaning to do? Talk about which clothes and toys are outgrown and can be donated to a thrift store or nearby shelter.
10. Don't forget pets! There is probably a cage that needs cleaning, a pet that can learn a trick for a special treat, or just time to cuddle when you'd normally be away from home.
Sound off!

My kids get really excited when the snow falls. As long as I don't have to drive in it, I'm all for it. Whether it's building a snow fort or a snowman, you have the ultimate material for fun. And who doesn't love a day of sledding? Followed by a steaming mug of hot chocolate of course.

The only time there was a snow day was if the roads weren't ploughed and the buses couldn't transport children that rode the bus. Most times the roads were ploughed and it didn't matter as we lived across from the elementary school. Our children enjoyed playing outside on snow days as it never seemed to last long and turned to slush. We have pretty mild winter weather on VI.

Love seeing everyone enjoying themselves, making snowmen etc, while it's snowing it is not too cold but later, I do not like that cold.

#11-15
12. Time to unwind. Not every moment needs to be planned and filled. Take a break with a book you each like, and read a chapter or two.
13. Too much energy? Watch the sugar intake, and clear a space for stretching, jumping jacks, jogging in place, or try to learn a hot new dance move together!
14. Artsy kids? Set up a craft table, cover with newspaper, provide lots of paper, glue, scissors, glitter, sequins, beads, yarn and other supplies. Let them create without any guidance from you ... just see what happens!
15. Ask a child with a particularly strong interest in a certain topic to research it with you and let them help you create a Squidoo Lens about it.
#16-20
17. Play Trivial Pursuit. Bend the rules: give a colored wedge for a correct answer on ANY space to speed up a game, make difficult questions multiple choice (with at least one SILLY answer), or play on teams with a "game show host" that keeps score rather than using the board.
18. Make music! Using a guitar or piano/keyboard, make up a song and let each child add a bit to it. Write silly lyrics to sing along.
19. Get out the Legos and create something together. Depending on how many you have, this can be one structure or a whole "city" of creations.
20. Go "window shopping" from the comfort of home! On Amazon.com, you can make a Wish List for every member of the family. Search the site, add items, prioritize your list and add notes!

bundle up & take a walk outside
#21-25
21. Take a nature walk, in a nearby park or even your backyard. Look for tracks and try to identify what left them. Think of what each animal might be looking for in the snow.
22. SNOWBALL FIGHT!! Split into teams: adults vs. kids, boys vs. girls, or whatever works for your group of 2 to 20 and build your forts. Then stock on up "ammo" and let the battle begin!
23. Make a family of snow angels, or build a snowman for each family member, and decorate them. Food coloring and water in a spray bottle adds to the fun, but be careful you don't stain your clothes.
24. Decorate a tree with yummy treats for the neighborhood wildlife. One idea: smear peanut butter over a plain unpainted pine cone, and roll it in bird seed. Hang it in the tree with a bit of yarn.
25. Come inside to warm up with some hot soup, warm cocoa and maybe another movie! (and we're back at #1 again)
