Snowfall Shows Global Cool Down in 2008-2009

All over the world, the weather has been a bit weird. There seems to be a cool down, despite the Global warming. In fact according to the Old Farmer's Almanac: Global cooling may be underway for winter 2008-2009. The Farmer's Almanac claims an accuracy rating near 80%. That is more than we can say for most weather reporters.

This information is taken right off the Farmer's Almanac site

"For 2008-2009, we are forecasting a 'numbing' winter, with below-average temperatures for at least two thirds of the country," reveals Farmers' Almanac weather guru Caleb Weatherbee in the publication's 2009 edition, which hits newsstands on August 26, 2008.

"Only the Far West and Southeast will see near-normal temperatures. Few, if any, locations will enjoy many above-normal temperature days this upcoming season."

The Farmers' Almanac is also calling for heavy snow in the Great Lakes and Plains regions this winter, with a rainy season in the South, and close to normal precipitation in most other regions of the country.

Editor Peter Geiger says the combination of skyrocketing prices for home heating fuel and the bone-chilling cold predicted for the coming winter could be "catastrophic."

"There's no doubt in my mind that this winter is going to be devastating for a lot of people. Anyone hoping for a break this year is going to have to dig in and dig deep into their wallets," says Geiger."

Well, the winter of 2010-2011 may be as bad for some people. They better settle for the term "climate change" since people get confused by global warming.

We didn't break any records last year. I think the most we had was maybe 6 or 7 inches. I couldn't imagine having 59 inches of snow!

Back about 6 years ago now, Halifax (here in Eastern Canada) got nailed by what is referred to as White Juan. A few months before, we got hit by a high Cat 2 hurricane (Juan) which toppled thousands and thousands of tress but only caused 2 deaths. Then came White Juan ..dumping 36 inches of snow on us in 39 hours ..worse I ever saw. We couldn't get out for 3 or 4 days. Funny things is you folks down in the USA say we send you all the bad weather...Did you know that most of our snow storms come up from the USA. That's true.

Nice photos but I do have a problem with the Las Vegas one. How did the Sphinx get there and it does look like it has been restored ??? (LMAO)

Very nice lens Sandy, 5***** It definitely was a cold winter, except in Florida! Not as warm as last year, but not the coldest either. The English Channel froze in January, the first time I remember this happening, and much of Europe wad far more snow than normal and bitter cold. Scary isn't it.

Beautiful photos! Even here in Miami the weather was colder than normal. One night it even go down in the 30's.

Wintertime is a wonderful time to spend with kids. We love to measure the depth of the snow.

I confess that I have only really once seen what I consider to be a serious amount of snow - on vacation in Colorado. It was fun for a couple of days but I really don't think I could live anywhere with lots of snow!
