Snowflake Cookies

Ranked #10,468 in Food & Cooking, #176,937 overall

We love to make snowflake cookies at our house for the winter holiday. Snowflake cookies are easy to make, all you need is a snowflake cookie cutter, your favorite cut out cookie recipe, some royal icing, and some sprinkles if you'd like.

You can also make your snowflake cookies out of gingerbread, or make stained glass window snowflakes by cutting out shapes and adding hard tack candy shreds for the stained glass affect.

Don't forget no two snowflakes are alike, so you can decorate your snowflake any way you like. Make your snowflake cookies as unique as you are.

Santa will be excited if you leave him a beautiful snowflake cookie on Christmas Eve.

Shortbread Cookie Recipe

snowflake cookieHere's the recipe for my favorite cut out cookies to make snowflakes out of.

Shortbread Cookies

* 1/2 cup butter
* 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cup flour
* 1/2 cup sugar
* 1 large Tablespoon of chopped fresh or dried rosemary
* 1 teaspoon vanilla

Blend the butter and sugar together until smooth. Add the vanilla, and the rosemary. Then slowly add the flour until the mixture forms a crumbly ball when you knead it.

Roll the mixture out on a floured board until it's about 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick, and cut into squares or use a cookie cutter to make shapes. Place on a greased baking sheet and bake for about 1o minutes, or until the top just starts to turn a light golden brown.

Remove the cookies from the baking sheet, and let them cool on a cooling rack.

Roll Out Your Dough

snowflake cookie cutter

Roll out your shortbread or gingerbread dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Sometimes it helps to refrigerate the dough before you try to roll it out.

Try to keep your dough as uniform as possible, cut through the dough by applying pressure straight down on the cookie cutter with the palm of your hand.

Place the cut out cookie on the cookie sheet, then go on to the next.
