What's A Soap Nut ?
Soap Nuts Are Nature's Best Cleaning Product
Soap Nuts before harvesting:
Actually they are the dried fruit shells from (or husks) the soapberry (or soap berry nut). More commonly known by many names such as soapnuts, soapberry, washing nuts, wash shells, Ritha (Hindi) nut shell, Chinese soapberry and more.
Soap nuts have been used for centuries throughout the world as a laundry detergent, as soap for personal hygiene, and as a multi-use cleanser.
There are several common varieties of the soapberry tree. Sapindus Mukorossi and Sapindus Trifoliatus are the primary sources for the soapberry, with Mukorossi being the highest quality soap nut, producing the most high saponin (soap) content. Sapindus Mukorossi grows primarily in northern India and Nepal.
Our Soap Nuts are from the Sapindus Mukorossi, which has the highest saponin (soap) content and are of only the highest grade and quality hand-sorted "Select" soap nuts.
If you tried soap nuts before and ended up disappointed in their cleaning ability it most probably was because they were a low quality soap nut from a different variety other than Mukorossi or a mixture of a few Mukorossi with other cheaper and weaker varieties. Mixing the varieties is a very common practice among harvesters and exporters. Not even those that are very familiar with soap nuts can immediately identify the difference. Important note: A large amount of soap nuts are pre-packaged overseas for retail in the US to save on labor costs. Hence, not even most U.S. and Canadian sellers can inspect them carefully. NaturOli, is an exception since the final packaging is done in the U.S. Soap nuts shipped by NaturOli have been hand inspected within only weeks of sale. Of course, water quality and your type of washing machine will also affect cleaning ability, as with any type of detergent.
