Blender technique to make homemade soap

Soap is alkali nitrate, natrium or potassium as usual, derived from the lipid acid.

Soap is made by mixing NaOH/KOH solution with oil or lipid. With any chemical reactions, NaOH/KOH changes oil or lipid to be a soap, refers to saponification.

How soap can clean our body or clothes? Soap is a kind of surfactant made by oil or natural lipid. It has bipolar structure, which substance of it "head" part is hydrophilic and "bottom" part is hydrophobic.

Because it, soap binds impurity (lipid as common) agent from the body or clothes. Besides that, surfactant will be grouped to form micel after it has passed a specific concentration in the solution, refers to Critical Micel Concentration (CMC).

Although is not proper to the big scale production, blender used to make homemade soap has many advantages. They are :
  • Soap mixing will be faster to reach the trace phase. Commonly, it's reached for about 12-40 minutes. By using blender, it's just reached in a few minutes, depends on the oil that is used.
  • Because liquid oil melts on the room temperature, homemade soap making process can be done in the common room and doesn't need thermometer to do.
  • Blender is an effective way to mix NaOH/KOH solution or water into oil, which results a soften soap mixture.

Ingredients

  • Almost oil or lipid can be made a soap. It's better to look for the easiest component, such as: coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, corn oil, bean oil etc.
  • NaOH/KOH. You can find it easily at the chemical shop. I recommend you to buy a technical substance.
  • Fresh water is used as a catalyst. It's better to choose water distillation or mineral water. Don't use tap water because it contents of many minerals which isn't better to be used.
  • Essential and Fragrance Oils as a soap aroma. You can purchase it at the chemical shop.
  • Colorant, which will give color to soap.
  • Addictive substance, you can use: spices, herbal, rice, or corn flour. It can be added at the trace time.

Equipment

  1. A mask used during process of NaOH/KOH solution making.
  2. Any glasses equipment used during the process of NaOH/KOH solution making.
  3. Rubber gloves used during soap making process.
  4. Plastic bottle used as the water container.
  5. Scales tool that has the smallest range of 1 or 5 gram
  6. Small plastic bag used to weigh NaOH/KOH component.
  7. Stainless steel spoon or polypropylene plastic used to pour and mix NaOH/KOH.
  8. Container made of glass or polypropylene plastic used as the NaOH/KOH solution container.
  9. Plastic container used to weigh and place the water and oil.
  10. Clothes used to cover a cast which had been filled with raw soap.
  11. A cast
  12. A blender

Let's make your homemade soap project

#1 prepare a cast

You can use anything to make a cast, such as: oiled tray, oiled PVC pipe, and plastic tray covered by thin plastic. Prepare a cast, which is enough to contain all the result of soap.

#2 weigh the water and NaOH/KOH component

Dissolve NaOH/KOH into the fresh water (never use an aluminum container, but stainless steel, Pyrex glasses, or polypropylene plastic).

Pour NaOH/KOH into the water slowly and step by step. Next, mix it until until all component are dissolved.

At the first time, that solution will has warmth and white color characteristic. After all component has been dissolved, then storage in the safe place to freeze it until the room temperature. Next, a solution will be a clean solution.

#3 Weigh the oil as much as the formula
#4 Pour the oil into blender
#5 Pour NaOH/KOH solution into the oil

#6 Install blender cover

Put clothes above a blender cover to avoid splash. Next, process it at the lower rotation of blender speed. Make sure that you not make any splashes to your body or face

Stop blender and check a trace phase. A trace phase is a condition that soap has been formed. It has a sign that soap mixing is already congealed. If soap mixing is touched by spoon for few second, a trace will be formed. So, that's why it refers to a trace phase. It's also signing the end of mixing process.

#7 add addictive agent

At the trace phase, you can add any addictive agents as like as you want, such as: aroma, coloring agent etc. After had added those addictive agents, you can be mixing it for few second. Wait it for any second, then stop blender rotation as soon as possible.

#8 Pour liquid soap into the cast

At the pour process, a cast must be covered by clothes. Next step, store liquid soap as long as 1-2 days. After it, remove your soap from a cast and then cut it as like as you want. The last step is re-storing soap at least 3 weeks before used.

Well, look your project..

"I am very happy that I purchased my soap making video. The video was great, I could actually see all the steps on how to make soap.

If anyone is interested in cold process (CP) soapmaking, I HIGHLY recommend this video. It's a great teaching tool. I was in search of a "How To" video on soapmaking for several months but it seemed as if none were out there. I was desperate so I continued to search. I finally came across the "Soap Making Fun" website and it was as if I hit the jackpot. All the answers to my silent questions were there including the video. I purchased the video, took notes, watched the video again and made a wonderful batch of Patchouli & Herb soap. It turned out perfectly!!!!!! It was all because of the video. It teaches you more than how to make soap but gives you great tips, explains soap terminology, and what was really important for me, was safety measures while working with sodium hydroxide.

If you've never made soap before but you're interested and not sure how or what to do, this video will give you everything you need to know to make a sucessful batch of soap. It's the best soap investment I've made because without it I would still have to purchase soap/detergent bars from the store. This way, I get to choose what goes in my soap and on my body!!!!!

Thank you!"
