Soccer Coaching Strategies

Soccer is a game with a simple premise: dribble or pass the ball down the field, then kick it into the net to score a goal.
While it may sound easy, there are many different strategies at work to accomplish that task. To be successful it is critical to develop some solid soccer coaching strategies.

Developing Soccer Coaching Strategies

As simple as this may appear, many new coaches do not understand the game well enough to even know what the different strategies are.
Fortunately there are ways to learn what you need to know in order to develop successful strategies. In most areas there are soccer coaching clinics being offered where new and even more experienced coaches can go to learn more about how to be a better soccer coach.

Soccer coaching clinics are a great way to make connections with experienced coaches in your area, and to tap into their knowledge and insight so you can gain a greater understanding of the game. As you learn more about the different strategies that are a part of the game, you begin to notice how they are used when you watch other teams play. You start to see what works and what doesn't work, and you begin to see how different strategies fit your team.

Soccer Coaching Philosophy

You also begin to develop your soccer coaching philosophy. Your philosophy is a guiding principle of how you feel the game should be played. By having a well-defined philosophy you will have a clearer idea of which strategies you can use in different situations that fit within your philosophy..

If your philosophy concentrates more on defense and ball control, you probably will not develop too many strategies that emphasize long passes and fast breaks. You set your practices up to concentrate on drills that developed the skills your players need to play within your philosophy.

Soccer Coach License

If you decide to continue on as a soccer coach, you will probably want to work on getting a soccer coach license. While having a license may not be necessary at younger and recreational league levels, many competitive clubs require their coaches to have a soccer coach license.
Having a license does not guarantee success as a coach, but it does provide you with the tools to be successful. By attending the classes and taking the tests necessary to get your license, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop strategies that you can pass on to your players, and help them develop as soccer players.

Once you begin to develop a few successful strategies, you will wonder how you ever survived without them.
