I'm sad to say that automated social bookmarking software is largely perceived to be a SEO Spam tool. However, I view it as a good part of any social marketing project. Sending bookmarks out on a enormous volume is one method that can be used to promote a website, but that often has short term benefit with long term problems: Your website often will get banned, your ISP might cancel your service & the various tagging/bookmarking sites will block you preventing you from posting in the future.

If you do decide to use blackhat search engine optimization methods to promote your site be sure you totally understand the rules of the game. Otherwise you might waste a lot of time and cash for no real benefit. Don't misunderstand where I'm coming from, I'm not casting any moral judgment on you if you decide to head down the blackhat path, just be sure you know what you're doing.

Here are 5 of the things you absolutely do not want to do (unless you don't mind your site being seen as spam):

1 - Don't bookmark thousands & thousands of your own site's pages

2 - Don't make hundreds of different accounts & bookmark the identical pages over and over again.

3 - Don't bookmark every one of the pages on your website.

4 - Don't overload your ISP by using automatic software like this for hours and hours continuously.

5 - Don't start using automatic posting tools like until you totally understand what it does and how it works

So how do you correctly use these tools in a "white hat" way? I personally don't see anything wrong with automating your bookmarking to sites like del.ico.us, Faves.com, Furl.com, Mixx.com, Spurl.net and the hundreds of other social sites on the Internet. However, you should follow along with the spirit of these social bookmarking sites and only post quality content. Don't just blast a bunch of junk to them. After all, I'm sure you'd really like to use all 500+ sites by hand (I've got a list of more than 500 of these sites and it grows almost daily), but it's actually impossible to personally go to each site one at a time and hand submit your bookmarks. I use automated tagging and pinging tools as an extension or tool to help me get my quality links that I want to save into these sites. Otherwise it would be impossible for me to use most of them.

I definitely encourage everyone to investigate this topic further before deciding on what product or methods your going to use in any of your automated social bookmarking software promotions.
