Step #1 - Post to Your Business Blog

Blogs are all about communication and they are also about keeping yourself constantly in the "eye" of viewers everywhere by sharing good information. People who read a blog post and like it are likely to stay on a blog site and explore it. They are also likely to share what they read and like with friends and business associates - even strangers, through bookmarking.

As a businessperson, your blog is one of your most important lifelines to the rest of the world and will do a lot to not only build your business, but your reputation and personal brand. It's extremely important to keep that blog active and to never let it go stale. This means posting social media content to your business blog on a daily basis.

Don't worry if you think it's going to be too hard to 1) come up with ideas for posts and 2) actually find the time to write and post them. You can streamline your blogging process to make things work much better by keeping a pad and pen handy so that you can jot down ideas when they come to you and to also make a note of articles or other blog posts you've seen that give you ideas (but don't copy anyone else's work).

When it comes to writing your posts and getting them on the Internet, you can do this yourself or hire a freelancer to help you out if you need to. Just remember that blog posts don't have to be long - just informative or thought provoking. You can even post something humorous once in awhile to add some levity. Be sure to post to your business blog each day. Doing this will keep your readers coming back and will attract new ones, too!

Step #2 - Post to Your Business Facebook Group Regularly

Your business Facebook group is a bunch of like-minded people who are interested in what you have to say and what's going on with you, and also in interacting with and learning from each other. A Facebook group can be a very powerful vehicle for gaining visibility in the world of Internet marketing and in building your brand. For this reason, you really don't want your Facebook group to be left unattended for long.

Check your group every day. Look for discussions that others might have started in your group and be sure you join in. Also, start discussions yourself. You can ask questions, or share an idea and ask people to comment, or you could let your group members know that you've just built a new Squidoo lens and invite them to take a look and give you feedback. Just stay active and make sure that what you're doing in your Facebook group is positive and helpful.

Another neat thing you can do with your Facebook group is post links and videos. So if you've found something that would be of interest to your group members, you can share those very easily via the Facebook group page.

And remember that a growing Facebook group is a happy Facebook group! When your group grows, this reflects in a positive way on you and your business and also helps the group gain notoriety within Facebook - bringing more members to you and ultimately more business as well. Aim to add one new member to your group every day because when you keep the group active and growing, it will begin to create its own momentum.

As with all your other marketing efforts, having a Facebook group and keeping it maintained and growing will go far in helping you to find the success you're working toward.

Step #3 - Post to Twitter at Least Twice Each Day

Your Twitter account is probably the most active and dynamic social media membership you have. Twitter never stops moving and growing and when you stay active and in the thick of things, you'll find that your business grows as a result.

Twitterers keep a close eye on who is doing and saying what in the Twittersphere. Even though it might seem like no one is paying a bit of attention, your tweets are being tracked. Helpful tips are tracked, as are run-of-the-mill comments. And other Twitterers usually frown upon people who do nothing but blatantly promote themselves.

With Twitter, your aim should be to tweet a minimum of twice a day, and you should have a goal that 80% of the time, you are tweeting something helpful - a link to an article or video that you found useful or inspirational or even a tip or quote of the day - whatever you think will be useful to someone else. Then the other 20% of your tweets can be notifications that you just posted to your blog with a link to your new post, or maybe a quick blurb about the new product your just launched, or another marketing-type tweet.

The 80/20 recipe is a good one for getting others on Twitter to like you and to want to read your tweets and take action on them. Posting at least twice daily allows you to stay active on Twitter without getting so caught up in Twitter that you don't get any other work done!

Karen, thanks for the comment. Yes, many people question whether Twitter is worth the time. However, its potential for "spreading the word" is so great, that we recommend spending at least part of your valuable time updating and posting info in there. Do what you can- with so many people using it, you're bound to get results! Give it time! Good luck--
