Social Bookmarking is Tricky
Many have seen the benefit of bookmarking their content across several bookmarking networks but that benefit is short lived and could open you up to search engine penalties. The reasons are simple...
1. You're not supposed to bookmark your own content!... Don't you think the search engines are onto this?
2. You're not supposed to exceed a certain number of bookmarks in your bookmarking accounts in a 24 hour period.
3. A single bookmark to your content across multiple networks is not very effective anymore as a result of item #1
4. Some bookmarking networks are reporting offenders of items 1 and 2 to public services and guess who subscribes?... You may be facing a penalty or worse, get yourself dropped from the search engine indexes.
Bookmarking should be done by a group of people, not by you. Also be weary of services that offer manual bookmark submission. You don't know if they are adhering to item #1 and #2... If your URLs show in their bookmarking accounts then you open yourself up to problems if they are having problems.
A single bookmark of a single piece of content across multiple networks (themed, tagged, optimized, etc.) is not nearly as effective as having several people bookmark that content. 10 people bookmarking that "single" piece of content is like 10 votes on that content. The search engines are watching a handful of social bookmarking networks to gather this "social buzz" intelligence... You get love regardless of nofollow/do follow.
Now what if you get 10 bookmarks for a single piece of content across 10 networks?... This is where the magic of bookmarking happens and it does wonders for SEO.
Bookmarking for the sake of bookmarking has dwindled in effectiveness over the past 2 years. Now its all about "how many people" are bookmarking your content. I like to call this "social buzz"... How much social buzz can you instigate around your content?
Start thinking about building a network of people who you can work within a group to bookmark each others' content across 10 different bookmarking networks. The bigger the group you can build the more social buzz you can build and the higher each member of the group will rank. Not to mention all the additional listings (in the search engines) your content gets from the bookmarking networks.
It is easy to rank for local and long tail search terms using this system. To compete for more competitive terms then repeat this process across 10, 20, 30 (whatever it takes) pieces of content that are all grouped under a category relating to the competitive term you're trying to rank for.
Just pay attention to your titles, descriptions, and tags to keep everything centered on the main theme you're trying to rank for with any specific piece of content. Simple, repeatable, build a group, get back to work on your conversion process instead of worrying about bookmarking stuff.

Syndication Revelation Free Report
"I put up my latest blog post, "Blog Promotion Plan", for syndication yesterday afternoon. I googled the title 2 or 3 hours after you guys started digging and clipping it.
It seems ridiculous to get this in a couple hours, but my blog post was #1, the social media page was #2, and the Digg page was on the Google first page, too ... against over 7 million other results.
I sure like Synnd."
Richard Dennis
Net Traffic Machine
"I thought I'd just report back on the results I'm seeing with my Synndications, my traffic is up 24.6% this month over last and whilst it's difficult to be certain this is all down to Synnd, the two articles I've promoted with Synnd are both showing significant increases in traffic. One that was definitely on my site for the whole of the previous month is up 5.38 times, so something is working."
Duncan Macyntire
"I'm having very good results using Synnd for the SEO work that I'm doing.
I had actually been looking for a community of people who would work together like this for quite some time, but could only find one. That program didn't have a tracking system in place, so people simply joined hoping other people would bookmark their stuff. They would never bookmark anything themselves. Thus, the value of that program was minimal as no one was bookmarking.
With Synnd, the tracking system keeps people incentivized to bookmark, which ultimately makes this so valuable!
I'd love to rack up more points so that I can submit more articles. I think we as a community need to start promoting the Synnd system to get more users on it
Charles... do you by any chance have an affiliate program?"

Leverage Your Time Wisely
Successful marketing is all about leveraging your time on a few tasks that leverage the time and effort of many people, not just you. In other words, if you are spending all your time doing menial work then you are not running a business, you're slowly losing one.
The next time you're looking for a marketing solution or working your marketing solution you should carefully record how much time you're spending on those chores.
Once you have documented this time then you will be able to plainly see how much time you're spending away from the chores that really count:
Optimizing your website or blog
Increasing your perceived value
Researching your market
Optimizing your traffic to sales conversion process
Determining the keywords you should be ranking for
Following up with prospects
Nurturing customers into repeat buyers
Building a better offer for prospects
Testing your conversion process
Optimizing and testing your sales pages
Cleaning up your graphics
Making videos
The list goes on and on...
If you spend most of your time marketing then it is virtually guaranteed that you are ignoring the important tasks above. Ironically, it is not the marketing that you're doing that will generate revenue for your business, it is all the items you're ignoring that would bring you sales... If you only had time to focus on them.

Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing should never be confused with social media networking. They are two completely separate strategies.
1. Social Media Marketing is the science of distributing your content across the social web.
2. Social Media Networking is the act of networking with people inside of social networks.
For many years companaies and individuals alike have been confusing these two very different initiatives and placing them under one umbrella. Most of the social media disasters we have seen to date are a direct result of confusing these initiatives. Social Media Science focuses on social media marketing as it applies to the distribution and propagation of your content across social channels to:
Effect higher search engine exposure
Effect higher search engine rankings through social buzz
Effect higher visibility of content within social properties with user voting and sharing features
Effect the initiation of the viral spread of content from user to user, network to network
Effect the mention of content from blogs and websites creating relevant inbound links.
Social media marketing does not consist of starting conversations, making social network friends or networking to discover business prospects. Social Media Science focuses on social media marketing (not networking). We have found it to be much more efficient in terms of bringing new, targeted traffic from the social networks as well as the search engines. Our motto is... Network with prospects... Don't network to bring in prospects... "Market" for prospects. Most people have this backwards, they network FOR prospects instead of networking WITH prospects. Focus on social media marketing first; this brings the prospects to your front door. Then engage with your prospects through social networking.
We have multiple reports within this category of interest that will lay the groundwork for new insight into new and powerful ways to market your business. You will acquire insight into the leverage that social media marketing gives you so that you can pull your focus away from search engine optimization (SEO). SEO will happen automatically and naturally when you put into action a social media marketing campaign.
