Writers have always relied on social networks of friends and editors to help them improve their writing. Nowadays, the old-fashioned writer's group is increasingly taking to the web! Here are some great websites for aspiring writers and best sellers alike.

Professional Associations

If you are published, you might also be able to join a professional writing association, another great way to network and enjoy interesting discussions of your craft.

Another Path: Fanfiction

For unpublished writers still learning their craft, one of the best ways to get feedback on your writing is by writing fanfiction and publishing it on the web. The fanfiction community is large, enthusiastic and has established routes for seeking constructive criticism both before and after publishing on LiveJournal (the main fandom hub at present), Fanfiction.net, or one of many fandom-specific archives. Of these, the most useful are "betas," fellow fans who will proofread and critique your writing before it is posted online. Although the quality of beta readers, like everything else in the fanfiction community, varies widely, the best can be a priceless tool for improving your skills in both fanfiction and original fiction, and a great friend to boot.

No fandom? No problem!

These are some of the most popular "'verses" among fic writers at present. Other popular fandoms include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Wars, Firefly, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, and many anime/manga series.
