Do You Love Those Big, Fat, Pink Frosted, Lofthouse Sugar Cookies?
This sugar cookie recipe bakes up super soft. Follow my recipe and roll the dough thick and you'll get a soft, flaky sugar cookie that melts in your mouth. The dough works well with simple shaped cookie cutters for any occassion.
These are my favorite cookies to make for Valentines Day, Christmas and gift giving because they turn out fat, cake-like and are perfect for topping with lots of frosting and sprinkles.

Soft Sugar Cookie Recipe
Roll them thick for cake-like cookies!
Mix:
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
Add:
3 beaten eggs (or egg substitute)
1 tsp. vanilla
Sift and mix with sugar mixture:
3 cups flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
Roll dough on lightly floured surface and cut with a simple cookie cutter. I cut these cookies thick, about 1/2 inch. *This is a really soft dough, try not to add too much flour so your cookies will stay soft and moist.
Bake @ 425 for about 10 minutes or until lightly golden.
Basic Frosting Recipe
Simple and delicious!
1/3 c. butter
3 c. powdered sugar
3 tbsp. cream or milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Beat together all ingredients until smooth.
*You can also add a little extra milk or cream to the recipe to thin it down into a glaze. This makes frosting really easy! Just turn the cookies upside down and dip in the glaze and let it roll down the sides or set cookies on a cooking rack and drizzle the glaze over the top. (Make sure you allow plenty of time for the glaze to dry before stacking.)
Royal Icing Recipes
Royal icing has stiff consistency and dries hard!
