What do you like about Solar Power?
There are 1,000's of people (including myself) that have turned to alternative, renewable energy sources to power their homes and cut costs, as you already know, or you wouldn't be here right?
Well, I'd love to get your feedback on WHY you are searching the Internet for info on using solar power for your home:
My Home Solar Power Story...
Hi! My name is Emily, and I love writing about great deals I find on home & garden products.A while back I noticed my neighbor Ben had installed a home solar power system, and I had to know more...Curiosity may have killed the cat, but being curious saved me $2,400 last year! More on that in a sec...
Anyway, I asked him how much it cost him, and WHY he decided to build a solar power system for his home, and he told me he paid a TOTAL of $260, and he did it to save money & energy!
I was blown away by his response, because I had read about a solar panel system costing $3,500 or more...
Come to find out, that $260 included a step-by-step guide that walked him through the building process, which is why he was able to get it so cheap.
Needless to say (while I'm not the handy type), I decided to give it a shot myself!
So, I got the home solar power guide he used, followed the instructions, and had my own solar power system generating enough wattage to cut my energy bill down by $35/month...and that was just from one panel!
So, without thinking, I decided to "invest my energy savings" into adding more panels, and between the three methods I used from the book, I was able to setup an alternative energy "power plant" of my own that generates enough power to run my whole house...without sending a check to the power company every month! =)
Want to learn more? I had a feeling you would...Stick around to find out how you can use the same system to slash your energy costs, too.
Solar Power News Video
Long story short, I realized that he is definitely NOT the only one turning to solar energy to power his home, and it's quickly decreasing in cost!
Speaking of that, I found this news broadcast on YouTube that I found interesting. I think you might enjoy it, too. Give it a look:

FAQ: Solar Power for Home
If I can handle it, I'm sure that just about anyone can, because I didn't even know how solar power worked before I talked to Ben and bought "Earth 4 Energy"!.
Anyway, I realize you might have some of the same questions I had about it, so I figured I'd give you some feedback based on what I learned about solar power here:
- Q: First of all, is this some crazy idea or will it actually save me money?"
A: Nope, you're not crazy for believing in this. It's very, VERY real...The solar power system I setup for my home saved me over $2,400 last year in total! - Q: "Will I need to hire someone or shell out a ton of cash to make my own solar power system?"
A: No way! It's a lot easier than you think, though I could never have done it without the instructions & diagrams in "Earth 4 Energy". That's the guide I told you about earlier, that Ben and I used:

- Q: "Is there a lot of maintenance involved?"
A: I have probably touched the solar panels I made 2-3 times in the year or so since I made it. Short answer: No. - Q: "Can I really power my entire house with solar energy?"
A: Yes and no. One solar panel will NOT power your home by itself. However, the "Earth 4 Energy" book shows you how to use multiple panels and other systems like a home wind generator to add up to enough power to bid farewell to the power company and their stupid bills for the rest of your life. =) - Q: "Don't solar panels cost $1,000's?"
A: To be blunt, yes. But, it's very easy to build your own home solar power system for less than $300, so don't worry...you'll make back your investment in no time! - Q: "Is there an easy way to do this? Should I just buy a solar power system or kit?"
A: To be honest, the easiest (and cheapest) way to do it is to build the solar power system yourself. That said, it might be tough to do things safely and correctly, the first time, without some guidance.
I'm glad my neighbor Ben recommended the "Earth 4 Energy" book to me, because it laid out all the ways you can save money on your energy while helping the environment, and gave diagrams to make things easy on me.
While I found some parts of the book fairly boring (sorry, but I'm not into the tech geeky stuff, I just wanted to save money!), it got the job done, and I was able to safely build a solar power system for my home in about 4 days.
Now I'm really excited, because I've combined all of the methods in the book to generate enough energy to power my entire home without paying a dime!

Why Solar Power is Great for Your Home
Look, if you're like me, you want to save some cash and keep your home looking nice. I'm very into decorating, crafts and design, but I don't like doing home improvement projects. So, at first, I wasn't so sure about putting solar panels on my house. But, now that I did it, I honestly like the way they look! (I put one small 3-panel system in the backyard just above my patio, and one on the very top of my house that runs through the attic.)
Anyway, I'm thrilled with the fact that I am able to save so much money on my energy costs AND help the environment at the same time.
BUT...I have a feeling you might be smarter than I am with this stuff, and you might want to go out and do it all on your own.
While I think it's a great idea to build a solar power system yourself, I would give an honest look at investing in "Earth 4 Energy" to be sure you set it up properly.
Good luck, and enjoy your solar powered home (and telling the power company you don't need them anymore)!
