The Protection Of Solar Security Lighting.

Natural power of solar lighting.

The sun, that great big yellow ball that is in the sky (sometimes.) It is mighty powerful and it can help protect your home.

Burglars and other intruders, don't like to be observed. When trying to break in at night they love the dark places around most homes. Darkness gives them cover.

Security lights take away that cover. Lighting means that the intruder can be seen, anyone who sees him will ask themselves "What is he doing on your property?" They are likely to phone the authorities.

Lighting also scares off intruders. The intruder makes his way across your yard to a window, he is under the cover of darkness so thinks he is pretty safe from being seen. As he gets close to the window your solar security lighting comes on and lights him up for all to see.

What does he do? He aborts his evil mission and gets himself away from your property. Your home is not the easy target he thought it was.

Your solar security lighting protected your home and family, and it doesn't cost you a cent to run, all powered by that big yellow ball and for free.

Advantages Of Solar Powered Security Lighting.

  • With solar power you can install your security lighting where electricity supply does not exist, such as your garden shed.

  • If you are of average ability with DIY projects you can install your solar security lighting yourself. All you need to do is install the light unit in a position that covers the area that needs covering and install the panel to get the most of the sun. What you don't need is any electrical skills, your security lighting does not need mains power.

  • A power outage is no problem. Even in a brown out or black out your sun powered security lights will still protect your home and family.

  • Solar power is free.

  • Solar power is green and clean.

How About Those Cloudy Days?

cloudy daysSolar panels still produce electricity when the sun does not shine. Even on cloudy days there will be enough diffused light to charge the panel and the shorter winter days are not a problem.

Here's the thing, your solar security lighting is only active when there is movement, it is not on constantly

. . . . . . so no big drain on power reserves.

Solar Security Lighting . . . Light When It Is Needed.

Would having the outside of your home lit up all the night long stop burglars trying to break in?

Yes, it almost certainly would. No intruder likes to be seen by neighbors or people passing. An intruder would likely steer clear of a home lit up like that, but . . .

. . . security lights around your home on all night long would be a big pain for the folks who live near you! Boy would they complain!

Far better that the lights come on only when there is unwanted movement, such as a burglar near your home.

That's why most solar security lighting makes use of motion detectors to control when the lights come on. These are the same motion detectors that are used in home burglar alarms and driveway alarms.

The light coming on only when needed means that your power reserves are not drained. It also means that your neighbors will still talk to you :)

Also, and this is important, a light that is always on does not attract attention! Whereas, a light that comes on suddenly does.

Your neighbors see your home suddenly light up, that gets their attention. Hey, what's that guy doing in your yard? What is he doing to your window? Better call the cops!

Solar Security Lighting. . . LED's Give You More.

Many solar security lights produced today incorporate LED's (light emitting diodes,) not standard incandescent bulbs.

LED's have a lot longer operational life than standard lamps, this means replacement is a lot less frequent. A good thing because you do not want to be climbing up to change a lamp in your solar security lighting too often.

Another big advantage of LED lighting over incandescent lighting is the reduction in power consumption. With LED's around 80% of the energy is light energy and only 20% heat energy. Compare this to incandescent lighting where only around 20% of the energy is light energy and around 80% heat energy.

With LED's more of the output is in the form of light, which is what you want. Perfect for solar security lighting, you want to light up the burglar, not heat him up!

Do you use solar power to . . .

. . . protect your home?

I have never had a lot of success with solar powered outdoor lighting, but I guess that's because they were really cheap units. These might work nicely to light the back when I come home in the winter. Good information.
