Which batteries are best used for solar lights?
AA Nickel Cadmium 600 mah batteries are ideal in solar lights.
Buy your nicd solar lights from a trusted source.
As I stated earlier in my introduction I sell aa nicad solar batteries on the internet and I speak daily with customers looking to replace there batteries in their outdoor lights.
In 99% of the cases only nicad batteries will work in the lights and the simple reason for that is the charger that is built into the lights will only charge nicad cells.
DO NOT just buy any aa nicad batteries, after selling over 50,000 batteries we have come to one conclusion and that is that the AA 600 mah batteries is by far the best battery to place in these lights. Should you not be able to obtain the 600 mah cells you can refer to the 700 mah but whenever possible get the 600's.
Whatever you do NEVER buy NiMH batteries for your solar lights cause they will not work and you will loose the 30 to 50 dollars that you invested only to find out that I told you so.
Here is the good news folks!
Onlybatteries.com specializes in rechargeable batteries but by far aa nicad batteries for solar lights is what we deal most in. A 24 pack of quality aa 600 mah cells would run around 47.95$ and the god news is that I want to offer you a coupon I put together for squidoo readers only.
When you visit the OnlyBatteries.com website please use coupon 60012 for a 15% savings.
I hope the information I have offered here was helpful and it is my pleasure to offer you the savings.
Thank you so much for visiting,

I use NiMH for my little 6 led, 9 mini panel "lantern". True, since the capacity is far superior to cheap nicds, it seems that the "math" doesn't work. That is because (without inefficiencies) about 200mA is going into a 2,200mA set of nimhs (6 in series to run 3 sets of 2 leds in series). After about 5 hours of sun, a whole amp is NOT in (like it should be, mayby the panels are less than rated). Thus, it is true that a cheap set of nicds may have been better but still would not have the amp hour capacity to last all night. I would have to double or even triple the pack.
I always use the better nimh because of higher capacity and nicds, being toxic, may be hurting the Chinise people who make them (possibly even hurting the American landscape???)
My little solar flashlights work all night. With nicds, it would be impossible!
So, with a single led solar light, the toxic one is better (better charging efficiency). Any project, though would be best with the higher capacity NiMH !
