Solar Power Systems

What if it is cloudy or cold?

Solar panel and laminate manufacturers have inreased the efficiency of solar power systems to the extent that it has become a very attractive option even in cloudier climates. The important thing to bear in mind is that solar power depends on intensity of light, not necessarily direct sunlight. So even when it is overcast, your solar panels will be producing electricity.

"Why should I start generating my own power?"

It sets you free from the grid.

IT is inexpensive as most of the layout is once off -unlike a monyhly power bill.

You will be able to spend your savings on other things

Knowing that you are doing your bit to conserve our planet feels great!

Solar Powerstation??

Some tips on doing it right the first time

Super Solar RV

"Thought you might like to see one guy's solution to limited roof space. It is from a poorly scanned photo ... but you'll get the gist of it. Those are the old Siemens 55 watt panels times about 34 = 1870 watts plus two 300 (or 400) watt wind machines. Makes you wonder just what he is doing inside???"

Motorhome Solar System

My Personal Motorhome Solar System

Being a motorhomer, I had to make a few choices to get the most from the sun especially with the little sunshine we get in New Zealand. The latest solar laminates tend to perform much better than the solid panels in the shade or cloudy conditions. It is resistant to hail and UV. It takes up much less space and is easy to peel and stick on the roof.

My bus is 9metres long and I have a house battery bank of 6 x 6volt 220AH batteries. That gives me 660AH at 12Volts. The solar laminates connect via an 80Amp Outback Solar Controller to the House batteries.

The next step:
The roof will be getting a proper thick UV proof Urehtane coat before the laminates are fitted. That is mainly to rustproof and insulate it.As the work progress, the lens will be updated.
