- Excellent information. I don't know why they don't make the installation of solar panels mandatory on new houses, which would bring the cost down considerably. It would make sense for many people to install these, if it was cost effective. Architects ought to also consider the orientation of new houses, so that a significant section of the roof faces south.

I also created one lens on solar power, but it's in slovene language -> Ploscati Soncni Kolektorji. - This is an excellent and very informative lens on solar power. I'm just about to read more about the Bio Solar Company. Improving efficiency in making solar panels is undoubtedly good but one of the main reasons people are not doing it is the initial cost to have it done. It would be really good when the cost of making a solar panel is significantly slashed down.

- Heather, there is more than one kind of solar energy, so there is more than one answer. Solar thermal heating can supply all the hot water for individual homes and is relatively simple and inexpensive to install. However, you may be referring to electricity from solar cells. Modern, thin-film solar panels are cheaper than coal at generating electricity: http://www.nanosolar.com/blog3/2007/12/18/nanosolar-ships-first-panels/ . There are issues with the cost of building large facilities, but that isn't stopping Europe, for the most part, and the cost keeps going down as more places use solar installations and economies of scale occur. See also http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977214670 . Thanks for the question. Ask more if you like. Jim
