Save Electricity with These Festive Christmas Solar Lights

Did you know that with Solar Christmas Lights, you can be very festive with your Christmas Holiday decorations while saving energy at the same time?  Solar Christmas lights come in a variety of forms, but all of them have one thing in common, they get their energy from the sun and not the electric outlet.  So if you are considering doing some decorating outside,  you might want to consider Solar Christmas Lights.

Unlike traditional christmas lights, Christmas Solar lights come with their own, electric generating plant built in.  They come with a small solar panel that charges batteries during the day - and when evening comes - beautiful lights for the holidays.

I Love My Solar Christmas Lights

...or when an electric outlet isn't available

I live quite a distance off the main road. Our driveway is a couple of hundred yards (about that in meters too) long. I love Christmas and have always wanted to have some Christmas lights down near the road. I love Christmas and Christmas lights are festive.

Unfortunately, I don't have any access to electricity down near the road. If I wanted to spend a fair amount of money I could have a meter put in, but I don't really have any other need for it.

The solution for me was solar Christmas lights. Solar Christmas lights don't use traditional light bulbs but low power LED (light emitting diode) technology . LED lights use a lot less energy than traditional lights for the amount of energy used.

Last year I dove in and bought some solar Christmas lights. I strung them along the fence down near the main road. I really didn't know what to expect. I put them up in the morning and that evening when the sun went down they came on. They have a sensor in them that turns the lights on when it gets dark.

I was delighted to see them come on. I had the multi-colored string lights. Finally, I had Christmas lights up that people could see and enjoy. I was pretty impressed. That first night they stayed on until sometime after 11:00pm.

A few days later, we had a very cloudy day. I was pretty sure the lights wouldn't do well. Again, I was surprised. They lasted almost as long as they did with full sunlight.

I had also put up a wreath. I got a pack of three small solar spotlights to shine on the wreath. They did an excellent job illuminating it. Again, it seemed that even on cloudy days, they did an excellent job.

All of this was done with no increases in my electric bill. That wasn't the only benefit though. These lights are rated at over 50,000 hours. They won't go bad after a season or two. I'm looking forward to using these again this year and adding more solar Christmas lights to my festive decor.

Other Reasons to use Solar Christmas Lights

Solar Christmas lights are low voltage. If the wiring somehow got frayed, a person has little chance of electrocution unlike regular Christmas lights.

Solar powered led lights stay cool to the touch meaning there is virtually no chance the heat will start a fire if something dry comes into contact with it. You also will avoid burned fingers if you touch them.
.
Solar powered Christmas lights use the sun for power, meaning they are clean for the environment. It's estimated that changing from conventional string lighting to a solar led strand of lights could save as much as 200 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Solar powered Christmas lights use leds (light emitting diodes) which will often last 25,000 hours or more that would be several years of continual operation without burning out.

Save Money. While solar powered Christmas lights may cost more on the front end, they more than pay for themselves. Traditional Christmas lights use several times more electricity. A solar led light strand of 35 lights uses about 1.8 watts of electricity -which the sun provides Traditional Christmas lights will use over three times as much electricity which you have to pay for. In addition, the longer life of the solar Christmas lights will pay for itself in replacement costs.

Solar Christmas lights can be used in remote areas where there may not be easy access to an electrical outlet.
