What you can do to be a Soldiers' Angel

Many families in the United States have loved ones serving our country in the different branches of the military. "May No Soldier Go Unloved" is the motto of Soldiers Angels. This non-profit group of 200,000 plus volunteers offers many ways to give to a soldier and his family.

I was asked to write a "Charity" article for a group that I belong to. I chose Soldiers Angels because there are so many different ways that a person can make a difference. Obviously contributing money is one way. Follow with me as I outline some of the many ways that you can help a soldier by being a part of this amazing group of volunteers.

Over 30 Groups Bless Soldiers

with projects that help deployed soldiers and their families from every branch of the military. There are so many ways that we can support our troops that take very little time.

Angel Bakers

Each month the volunteers in the Angel Bakers group send homemade treats to our deployed heroes. Boxes of cookies, brownies, and other homemade treats are sent to units that have been identified as needing a morale boost or to help them get through living in very trying conditions.

There are also corporate sponsors who work with this team.

Soldiers Angels - The Book

A book written by Jeff Bader telling the story of his incredible wife Patti Patton Bader and the founding of the volunteer group Soldiers Angels.

Blankets of Belief

We can't wrap our arms around the deployed soldiers to let them know we care about them so there are a group of volunteers who are sewing special blankets to be sent to soldiers during the holiday season this year.

You can volunteer to sew blankets or you can make a donation to help pay for the supplies and shipping of the blankets to our soldiers. You can find out more about this project by visiting the page for Blankets of Belief

Soldiers Angels: Eagle Cane Project

Woodcarvers across the country are making these special presentation canes to give to soldiers who have suffered a loss of a limb.

The canes are not really made for the soldier to use but as a symbol of our gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

It is the intent of the group to have a woodcarver from the soldier's home state carve the cane if at all possible. If there is no carver, the cane will be mailed to the soldier.

VA Crochet & Craft Team

The VA Crochet & Craft Team makes and sends lapghans (blankets), hats, scarves, trach/stoma bibs, catheter bag covers, ditty bags, wheelchair/walker totes and slipper socks to VA medical facilities around the country. Members use their sewing, knitting, crocheting and other crafting skills to help provide comfort and dignity to hospitalized veterans while showing them that they are loved and remembered.

My friend Sylvia wrote a lens about this wonderful project by the Soldiers Angels. Volunteers make special scarves that help the soldiers in Iraq cope with the extreme heat.

Guardian Angels for Soldiers' Pets

Soldier's Pet MissionThe mission of this group within Soldiers Angels is "Supporting our Military, Veterans, and their beloved Pets to ensure the pets are reunited with their owners following a deployment (combat or peace-keeping mission) in harm's way to fight the global war on terrorism or unforseen emergency hardship impacting their ability to retain their pet's ownership rights." I chose to directly quote from their page on the website.

Soldiers Angels Helps Michael Reagan

with Fallen Heroes

Professional portrait artist, Michael Reagan uses the family's favorite photo of their fallen soldier to create a custom hand drawn portrait. He does not charge the family for his work. He feels it is his mission to help bring home the servicemen and women who have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001.

His solemn and most gracious labor of love is honored and supported by Soldiers Angels. The organization is now paying the shipping for Mike to send the portraits to the families.

God Bless you, Mike Reagan! The videos below show the work he has done with the 4th one telling Mike's story.

Monetary Donations are always welcome

Such a great lens! I did not know about the canes. They are really pretty. I always have to choose the day to read the lenses about soldiers. Some days it is still just to hard and others, like today, I can focus on the young men and women who are still serving. Thank you for showing us the different ways "Soldiers Angels" are helping to send love.
